Yamaha SRT-1000

Get true surround sound from Yamaha's debut soundbase

Sleek design and solid build ; Convincing surround sound ; Muscular, well integrated bass and crisp detail ; Excellent control app

Surround performance dependent on room ; No HDMI inputs or front panel readout ; Not as refined as some rivals ; Expensive

Yamaha’s debut soundbase is the first to deliver convincing surround sound, backed up by attractive features and a stylish design – although the cheaper Canton offers a more assured performance.

Yamaha SRT-1000 review

Packed full of features, Yamaha's first soundbase is a strong attempt at boosting tinny TV sound...

Big, expansive sound ; Rich, solid bass ; Well featured ; Extensive setup control ; Detail levels largely good

Midrange lacks expression and subtle detail ; No HDMI inputs ; ‘Surround sound’ feature is very room dependent

The SRT-1000 is a good first soundbase from Yamaha, but some competitors deliver a more exciting sound

Yamaha SRT-1000 soundbase review

Not only is the SRT-1000 Yamaha's first soundbase, but it's also the first to promise ‘true' surround sound, using technology found on the company's high-end digital sound projectors.

Excellent build; sleek design; thumping bass output; good detail and dialogue clarity; surround sound mode

No HDMI; surround sound not for all rooms; pricey

The Yamaha SRT-1000 offers the best simulated surround sound of any sound bar at its price level. Dolby and DTS decoding help it sound excellent with movies and decent with music. The speaker is well-built and attractive, with plenty of usability...

Music mode is poor. More expensive than many sound bases.

The Yamaha SRT-1000 offers discreet looks, an astoundingly wide soundstage and plenty of features, upping the ante for the sound base speaker category.

Yamaha SRT-1000 Sound Base Review

Yamaha's SRT-1000 is their first speaker base and the masters of the soundbar show the competition how it's done.

Great sound quality ; Effective sense of surround ; Attractive design ; Excellent features ; Useful remote app

No HDMI inputs

It will obviously depend on the size of your TV but if the Yamaha SRT-1000 fits then it should definitely be on your list of potential sound bases. The design is attractive and the build quality is excellent; so not only will it look good but it will...

Yamaha SRT-1000 review

You won't find a sound platform with more convincing virtual surround sound, provided you can get it to work in your room at all.

Yamaha clearly made some sacrifices to bring its Sound Projector technology to the SRT-1000, including a pedestrian interface, and a lack of features like HDMI, which show up in units that cost hundreds less. However, for those willing to pay a...
