Wharfedale Diamond 100-HCP

World exclusive test of Wharfedale's nicely-priced 5.1 speaker package

Powerful, detailed presentation ; Impressive bass output ; Good value for such high quality

Underwhelming build quality ; Not the prettiest design

Finally the subwoofer hails from Wharfedale’s Powercube range, which is odd as it’s not a cube. Still, it’s a good-looking and surprisingly compact sub, tarted up in the same blackwood finish (with six other colours to choose from) and classy curved...

Wharfedale Diamond 10.0 review

The famous 1980's speaker reaches its 10th generation. And it's a small one too

Good energy and rhythm ; Good with voices ; Very good imaging ; Effortless dynamics

A little dry due to unevenness in treble ; Detail good but not excellent

Wharfedale Diamond 10.1 review

These standmounters ae still worthy speakers, but fresh competition has blunted their edge

Transparent, honest sound ; decent build ; good detail and control

Don’t sound as exciting or insightful as the best new rivals

The Diamonds had a good innings as five-star speakers, but fresh competition now offers more for the money

Wharfedale Diamond 10.5 review

They're plenty of speaker for the money, but the 10.5s' timing lets them down

A lot of speaker for the money ; detailed ; superb integration ; tight, controlled bass ; good soundstage

Lack of rhythm ; weak dynamics

The 10.5s have a lot of sonic plus points, but their timing and dynamic ability let them down

Wharfedale Diamond 10.0 review

Although far better than the speakers that came with your micro, you can do even better for the money

Tidy looks ; unflappable, self-assured sound

They perform differently, rather than better, against a wall ; unable to summon much sonic enthusiasm

The 10.0s are an ideal choice for the easily startled, but a little straitlaced for our liking

Wharfedale Diamond 10.MX review

Wharfedale's Diamond 10.MX is hard-hitting but not mindlessly so

Digs deep, hits hard ; good tonal variation with music ; wide choice of finishes

Not as quick as it might be where music is concerned ; some chuffing from reflex-port at volume

Where bass is concerned it’s certainly got quantity, and to a great extent the Wharfedale has the quality, too

Wharfedale Diamond 10.3 review

We prefer the Diamond 10.1 bookshelf speakers, but if you're determined to buy some floorstanders you won't go far wrong with these

Build quality is top notch ; open, spacious sound ; detail is decent ; plenty of bass

Soft bass impacts on punch and dynamics

If you must have floorstanding speakers for this money, then these are as good as we've heard for some time

Wharfedale Diamond 10.5 review

This affordable floorstander unusually features a dome midrange driver

Superior voice band coherence, thanks to dome midrange driver ; Advanced enclosure shape and construction ensures minimal boxiness ; Separate plinth gives solid spike-mounting

Too much bling? ; Tonal balance a little too warm and laid back ; Lacks midband transparency

The unusual dome midrange driver seems well justified here for the superior coherence it brings to voice reproduction, both spoken and sung. The tonal balance might be a little too rich and laid back for some tastes

Wharfedale Diamond 10 HCP review

The Diamond 10 HCP is a very capable system for the money, but it needs a little polish to truly shine

Compact dimensions ; detailed, punchy, direct sound ; excellent subwoofer

Centre channel could integrate better ; not as dynamic as the best systems at this price-point

The Diamond 10 HCP is a good system at a tempting price, but it's not quite up to the standard of the class leaders

Wharfedale Diamond 100-HCP review

It's 1981 and the dying embers of disco are still burning the nation's dancefloors, Diana Spencer is about to marry our future king, and British audio brand Wharfedale unveils its very first Diamond speaker – the progenitor of the 5.1 system you see...

Highly detailed sound; tight, potent bass reproduction; excellent value for money

Plasticky finish and rather pedestrian looks; larger cabinets than rival sub/sat systems
