Sony HT-NT5

The Sony HT-NT5 is a high-end soundbar/subwoofer combo. Unashamedly over-engineered, it features super-tweeters designed to service hi-res audio, and a level of finish that elevates it far above the rank and file of commodity TV sound systems.

The Sony HT-NT5 is sweet and musical, but for a movie night in you might hanker for something more exciting.

Sony HT-NT5 review

Not a bad effort, but this Sony soundbar doesn't give your TV the boost it should...

Clear, open sound ; Will go decently loud ; Times well with good drive and organisation

Sub is soft and poorly integrated ; Midrange lacks detail and expression ; Struggles to convey dynamics ; Busy scenes can sound congested

Another stylish soundbar from Sony, but its lack of detail, dynamics and low-end punch leave us wanting more

Sony HT-NT5 Soundbar review

All lightning and no thunder

Outstanding clarity and dialogue articulation ; Premium design and finish ; HDMI 4K pass-through + HDCP 2.2

Compact subwoofer too mild ; Relies heavily on Google Cast ; Some movie soundtracks are too sharp

Sony has refined the HT-NT5 for extreme musicality but, as a trade off, it doesn't have the oomph for cinema-quality sound reproduction.

Sony HT-NT5 review

Audio equipment, and the sound bar in particular, is a little bit like local government. Everyone sees the "little people" -- the street sweepers, the meter readers and so on --and everyone knows the "mayor", but from the outside looking in it's hard...

The Sony HT-NT5 gets nearly everything right: design, features and sound for music and home theater.

Sound quality, while excellent, is not twice as good as a $400 sound bar. Setting up rear speakers is expensive and a little frustrating.

The Sony HT-NT5 offers distinctive good looks, a superlative feature set and generous performance, making it our favorite sound bar for the price.

Sony HT-NT5 review

  (Rating Hidden)

The Sony HT-NT5 sound bar is supposed to allow you to experience the very highest quality of digital sound. It features Hi-Res Audio technology, so it's capable of playing digital files with much more detail than your average MP3. But how does it...

Sony HT-NT5

The well-connected Sony HT-NT5 soundbar is a powerful two-piece speaker system equipped with Google Cast and 4K HDMI passthrough.

Lots of wired and wireless connection options. Powerful sound. Good performance for both movies and music. Crisp highs and powerful bass.

Slightly weak in the low-mids for music. Only uses Miracast for video streaming. Power cables are permanently attached.

Conclusions The Sony HT-NT5 is a full-featured soundbar with plenty of power for both movies and music. It's loaded with connectivity options including Google Cast and three HDMI inputs, and it can get satisfyingly loud with its wireless subwoofer...

Review: Sony HT-NT5 | Good Compromise Sony HT-NT5

This is designed to lie flat and point towards the ceiling, but nevertheless sounds good facing forward. It works pretty good.

The most successful flat soundbar we have heard. Sounds both natural and open, and has good usability.

The focus of the soundscape is better from the soundbar that play directly forward.

The Sony soundbar is flat and elegant. It works fine for movies and TV with a natural and open soundscape, and it is surprisingly okay for music for a soundbar that lies flat and plays upwards. Streaming with Google Cast works great, and it is an...

Sony HT-NT5 Soundbar Review

The HT-NT5 can't be beat when it comes to features alone — it rivals many stand-alone audio-video receivers. From 4K to high-resolution audio, it embraces the latest video and audio formats and makes it simple to use them. It sounds pretty good, too,...

Feature abundant ; Wide sound field ; Loud

Pricey ; Lacks midrange
