Samsung R5

The WAM5500 (or R5 for short) is Samsung's latest wireless multiroom speaker. It's one of three new models launched at the tail end of 2015 alongside the R1 (WAM1500) and R3 (WAM3500). The R5 sits one step down from the excellent R7, which earned top...

Small footprint ; Generous range of music services ; Stylish, intuitive app ; Good integration, attack and detail ; Omnidirectional tech works well

Design lacks the wow factor of R7 ; Could be more finessed ; No Tidal or SoundCloud support

Samsung R5 review

  (Rating Hidden)

A modest black pillar, the Samsung R5 looks fairly unassuming. But hidden inside this so-called 'omnidirectional' wireless speaker is technology designed to project high quality audio to every angle. Find out below whether this is truly Samsung sorcery...

Review: Samsung R5 Multiroom speaker (WAM5500)

The idea of sound everywhere in the home is one that makes us happy, but sometimes you just want a speaker to send music everywhere in one room. Fortunately, Samsung is stepping up to the task with the omnidirectional R5, and it's multiroom too.

Relatively bright yet bassy speaker; Loads of volume; Great simple design; Surprisingly easy setup procedure that won’t have you tearing out your hair;

Reception can be a little buggy, especially with large FLAC files; App needs more services; Truly stereo tracks can sound hollow;

Samsung Radiant 360 R5 Review

A chic design is not enough to launch this speaker to the top of our list. It struggles with bass-driven music, although it sounds good when you listen to more soft or acoustic songs. It is Bluetooth and Airplay compatible, but lacks a line-in port for...

The tower design allows for 360-degree sound dispersion.

The speaker struggles to produce punchy bass.

This stylish speaker looks great and has a pleasing sound despite its lackluster bass reproduction.

Can't play Itunes purchased tracks

Sounds good and looks great but... you can't play any tracks you have purchased from Itunes. You get a message saying " This song is available on Apple Music App only". I contacted Samsung and they confirmed you can't play these tracks. If this isn't a...

not great sound

This speaker was purchased to replace an ageing but functional hi fi system using Apple Airplay connectivity. I use it with bluetooth, not tried the wifi option, as it needs Spotify premium to work in this mode. I have Spotify unlimited. The sound is...

Think again

Purchased a pair of these on Saturday returned them on Monday. Nothing really wrong with the hardware but the app that interfaces with them is totally useless. Auditioned the Sonos alternative, liked them, bought them, they are now installed and I'm...
