Philips HTL5120

A classy wireless soundbar with inbuilt Bluetooth.

Refined sound quality ; Generous connections ; Superb build quality and classy design

No USB port ; Virtual Surround Sound

Overall power output is quoted as 120W, pumped into the room by a 4-inch woofer and 1-inch tweeter at each end of the soundbar. On board decoding for Dolby Digital and DTS allows you to feed a bitstream directly into the unit via HDMI or digital input....

Philips HTL5120

If you're willing to spend £250 to boost your TV sound, look no further

Excellent sound ; Plenty of connections ; Lovely remote control

It’s a bit big ; Could do with a proper display

Philips, it seems, is on a roll – at least when it comes to soundbars. We had a few concerns about this being an oversimplified version of its pricier sibling, but those were unfounded.

Philips HTL5120 soundbar review

Soundbars are currently home cinema's hero products and the HTL5120 is a fine example of the genre. The design is more luxurious than the price tag suggests, with silky black cloth, brushed silver panels and curvy gloss-black ports at both ends. It can...

Philips HTL5120 Soundbar Review

Sometimes it's great being proved wrong!

Lovely, room-filling audio ; As good with music as it is movies & TV ; Gorgeous, compact design ; Loads of connections ; A doddle to set up ; Outstanding value

Bass can distort when pushed too hard ; Remote is a bit slippy in the hand ; No OSD set up

The Philips HTL5120 is both bigger and heavier than one might expect. Its near 16cm depth will mean you'll need a fair bit of clearance on your unit unless you choose to wall-mount using the included brackets. Either way it's a very good looking...

Philips HTL5120 review: Ultrasleek budget sound bar, wide sound

The ; is a particularly stylish sound bar with a sleek, winglike design. Its connectivity is a cut above the rest, with two HDMI inputs, two digital inputs, and built-in Bluetooth. And its virtual surround-sound processing is very good, creating the...

While the sound is immersive, the overall sound quality isn't as good as you get from similarly priced systems. And the included remote has a confusing button layout that's tough to get used to.

The Philips HTL5120's distinctive design, low price, and immersive sound make it a tempting budget sound bar pick, although its sound quality isn't a good match for purists.

Philips HTL5120 review

It doesn't take an expert to understand the appeal of the Philips HTL5120 ($250). It's one of the sleekest-looking sound bars there is, with a distinctive, slim design that easily sits under a TV. Its sound quality immediately gets your attention, too,...
