Creative Gigaworks ProGamer G500

Not for the first time, Creative has launched a set of 5.1 speakers. The Gigaworks are aimed at wallop loving gamers. But do they provide enough bang for your buck?

The system has a wired controller that is well designed and simple to use with a rough volume indicator on the left side, featuring five green LEDs and controls on the right to alter the individual levels of rear, centre, sub and treble speakers. The...

Creative Gigaworks G500

Are you a keen gamer on a budget, who also enjoys watching action movies? Then this Creative rig ticks all the boxes. While you lose the wireless rear speakers, you do get a claimed 500w of brute audio force

Plenty of grunt, Affordable

Sound lacks some finesse

A powerful and affordable system, but it won't be for everyone

Creative GigaWorks ProGamer G500

At $100 less than Logitech's flagship 5.1 set, the Creative GigaWorks ProGamer G500 PC speakers compete well in sheer audio output. You lose out on advanced capabilities such as digital audio input and Logitech's excellent control pod, but for a simple...

Impressive sound quality; dedicated control module with headphone jack; includes stereo RCA to stereo miniplug adapter for auxiliary audio input; upmix feature for two-channel sources; THX certified.

No digital audio inputs; satellites hiss when audio isn't playing.

The relatively affordable Creative GigaWorks ProGamer G500 5.1-channel multimedia speaker system delivers excellent performance across the board. We only wish it had a digital audio input.

The Creative ProGamer G500 Makes Beautiful Music

Until now, there has been a gap in Creative's speaker line, between the superb GigaWorks 750 system and the maker's much more consumer-oriented products. With the ProGamer G500, that gap has now been filled, the new system promising power and quality...

Our measurement of maximum output registered 109.2 dB - quite a remarkable value, especially considering that this isn't a "monster" system, but one that has a reasonable price and footprint. It means you'll have all the power you need for close-up...

Creative G500 310 Watts RMS 5.1 GigaWorks ProGamer Speaker System

The remote isn't fancy but it is more than enough for my needs. I definitely recommend this speaker set for anyone using their computer for gaming, music or videos.

The speakers have excellent, crisp sound. The sub-woofer puts out some excellent wall shaking bass

The speaker cables for the rear speakers could be a few feet longer

Excellent bang for buck.

I got this set a couple years back, and I have considered upgrading to the Z5500, not because I'm unsatisfied with my G500 setup, but because I'm constantly looking for better gear. However, I just do not feel that is a big enough upgrade to justify...

Excellent clarity--highs, mids, and bass very nice. Digital controls, so no static when changing volume. Very good balance--you can change treble and bass, and in changing both at the same time you can change the mids as well. You can also change...

Very weak power. I often have to crank the volume up to near maximum to hear some movies encoded in AC3. The signal-to-noise ratio is not spectacular, but it is pretty darn good. The "mute" button is absolutely useless. Why would anyone mute when they...

it finally happened

I'm not sure what to think. I'm glad I had gotten them, but I want something that will last for a long time AND is great quality, not something that will die after a year or so. This is terrible. I've been wanting to look into the L0gitech z5500's for...

They're loud. They're very loud. They're extremely loud. They are nice while they last. Setup is not really to big a deal

I've had these over a year and all the problems that have been read about have happened. The right front channel went, the rear left speaker went (not sure how that happened), and the system simply turns off sometimes. I figured it was overheating at...
