Bowers & Wilkins MM-1

Bowers & Wilkins brings Hi-Fi to the desktop.

There was never any doubt in our minds that the Bowers & Wilkins MM-1 speakers would be something special and, lo and behold, they are. They look stunning and sound even better - truly, PC audio has never had it so good.

Bowers & Wilkins MM-1 review

The Bowers & Wilkins MM-1 is a stereo speaker system for the desktop, offering a taste of audiophile sound from the British loudspeaker specialist.

For a comany that also sells audiophile grade music online, we were ready to question the Bowers & Wilkins MM-1’s limitation to 16-bit resolution digital audio. As it happens, this speaker system makes something of a silk purse out of CD-quality music....

Bowers & Wilkins MM-1 Speakers Review

If you've been reading my posts over the past few years on a regular basis, you'll know by know that I'm a self confessed audiophile. My iTunes library is full of lossless tracks that I've ripped from my growing CD collection (yes, until I can download...

Bowers & Wilkins MM-1

Bowers & Wilkins has an enviable reputation for its studio monitors and hifi speakers, but it's best known among Mac users for its Zeppelin iPod speaker dock. That, however, could be about to change with this pair of desktop speakers

There's no denying that Bowers & Wilkins is commanding a premium price for the MM1. Indeed, for most of us, spending 400 on a pair of speakers just to connect to your Mac is unthinkable. However, if you're the kind of music fan who has their music...

Bowers & Wilkins MM-1 speakers review: design and build

Bowers & Wilkins is a company renowned for rolling out the very best looking, thoughtfully designed hi-fi kit out there. From the gorgeous Zeppelin iPod dock to the retro-style P5 headphones, it doesn't make bad looking tech. So how do the Bowers &...

Stunning, sleek looks, clever cable placing

Bowers & Wilkins MM-1 PC speakers

Bowers & Wilkins' MM-1 PC speakers deliver great audio

Wonderful audio, compact

Expensive for PC speakers

For a company that also sells audiophile grade music online, we were ready to question the Bowers & Wilkins MM-1's limitation to 16-bit resolution digital audio. As it happens, this speaker system makes something of a silk purse out of CD-quality...

Review: Bowers & Wilkins MM-1

B&W's MM-1 desktop speakers are a perfect mix of business and pleasure, with rich tones and killer base tucked inside sleek black boxes.

Terrific sound across the entire spectrum. Included remote lets you control volume and jump between tracks (iTunes and Windows Media Player only). Inputs concealed beneath speakers (peekaboo!). Coffee-mug-sized footprint

Sound isn’t quite as bold as M-Audio’s AV 40s’ — a bit muffled at higher volumes. Not cheap

Bowers & Wilkins MM-1 Computer Speakers Review

We've reviewed a number of great speakers, but we haven't been this excited about a set of boom boxes since we laid hands on the eponymous Cambridge SoundsWorks MicroWorks in the very first issue of boot magazine—way back in September 1996.

Exquisite audio reproduction; elegant design

Very expensive; short-ish, hardwired cable on right speaker cabinet

We’d like to tell you that the MM-1 is comparably priced to speaker systems made by the likes of Logitech, Altec Lansing, or even Klipsch, but 500 clams puts it at the opposite end of the spectrum. If you’re as passionate about audio quality as you are...

Bowers & Wilkins MM-1

We found a lot to like about the Bowers & Wilkins MM-1 multimedia speakers, but their price tag gives us pause.

Slick, modernist design ; Well-balanced, detailed sound ; Punchy bass ; Remote control included ; Digital connection via USB to computer

Extraordinarily expensive ; Audio quality isn't as good when you move out of the sweet spot (three feet away from speakers) ; Sound is so detailed it makes MP3s and streaming audio of already iffy quality sound worse
