Bose Smart Soundbar 900 review

Bose throws its hat into the Dolby Atmos ring with the Smart Soundbar 900

Expansive breadth ; Sleek design ; Clear vocal projection

No DTS support ; Noticeably processed sound ; Not as Atmos-y as the best

An impressively wide-sounding, articulate and crisp Dolby Atmos soundbar, but it occasionally lacks tonal consistency and authenticity

Bose Smart Soundbar 900 review: Looks great, but does it sound great?

The 900 adds upfiring speakers and Dolby Atmos support, which lacked in the outgoing 700 model, for even more immersive output. Just how good is it?

Bold and bright sound - it's also great for music ; Ease of use with HDMI eARC ; ADAPTiQ room calibration ; Built-in Alexa voice control ; Dolby Atmos object-based decoding adds to expansive soundstage

Reflective glass top catches light from TV ; Expensive - especially if considering all accessories ; No additional HDMI input for passthrough ; Not capable of lowest bass output ; No DTS:X support ; Power cable too short (just 1.4m)

Perhaps the best-looking soundbar on the market right now - Bose is clearly taking the fight to Sonos - the aesthetic is also its downfall, given the reflective nature of the glass top. Still, this model is a notable improvement on the outgoing 700...

Bose Smart Soundbar 900 review

Bose's first Dolby Atmos soundbar is here and it's pretty impressive – but does it justify its hefty price tag?

Great sound quality ; Looks great ; Dolby Atmos

Expensive ; Tough competition

Bose Smart Soundbar 900 review: Atmos adds to the immersion

Bose's first Dolby Atmos soundbar, the Smart Soundbar 900, goes head-to-head with the Sonos Arc -- and the results may surprise you.

Elegant design Good Dolby Atmos effects Excellent music quality Handy TV voice control Private listening headphone sync

Only one HDMI port Basic, non-backlit remote Bose Music app lacks some features

“The Smart Soundbar 900 adds Dolby Atmos for only $100 more, making it a superb choice for a single-speaker home theater sound system.”

Bose Smart Soundbar 900

Bose packs this all-in-one soundbar with terrific audio and scads of features, but you'll need more speakers to unlock its immersive potential.

Silky, musical sound ; Dolby Atmos support ; Built-in Alexa and Google Assistant ; AirPlay 2 and Chromecast ; Room correction

Height and surround cues are quite subtle ; Reflective glass top

The Bose Smart Soundbar 900 packs a bevy of features and superb sound, but we suspect its full immersive potential can only be unlocked with more speakers.

Bose Smart Soundbar 900 Review

The Bose Smart Soundbar 900 is a standalone 5.0.2 setup with a premium design. Unlike the Bose Smart Soundbar 700, it comes with two up-firing drivers that suppo...

Bass and treble adjustments. Dialogue enhancement mode. Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Apple AirPlay 2 support. Supports Dolby Atmos content. Gets loud.

No auto-volume mode. Lacks low-bass. Mediocre surrounds performance.

The Bose Smart Soundbar 900 is good for mixed usage. Thanks to its ADAPTiQ feature, it can automatically optimize audio reproduction based on your space. It has a neutral sound profile suitable for lots of types of audio content. It supports Dolby...

Bose Smart Soundbar 900 Bose Smart Soundbar 900 Review - Big sound from Bose

The Smart Soundbar 900 is Bose's latest flagship with Dolby Atmos overhead speakers - and a surprisingly big soundstage.

Incredibly large soundstage, both in height and width. Clear dialogues, surprisingly good bass even without sub. Room correction is handy.

The big sound doesn't always work well with Atmos content, and the 3D sound can't be switched off. With a wireless subwoofer, the price becomes rather shameless.

The Bose Smart Soundbar 900 is a soundbar you should definitely listen to if you’re looking for the biggest possible soundstage without the use of rear speakers. It’s impressive what it’s capable of.

Bose Smart Soundbar 900 review: decent sound but pricey

The Bose Smart Soundbar 900 supports Atmos, has bags of features and produces good sound — though not as good as you'd expect for the price.

Slim and sleek design ; Automatic room correction ; Alexa and Google Assistant built in ; Dolby Atmos support ; Good overall levels of sound for movies

Price ; Bass output is so-so ; Not so great for music listening

If you aren’t wedded to the Bose ecosystem and sound quality matters most to you, the Arc is the better choice. If you’ve got other Bose speakers, it would make sense to stick with a Bose soundbar.
