B&W MM-1 speakers review: sound quality

Great warm sound, with no flaws

That we can’t afford them

Bowers & Wilkins MM-1

Stellar audio performance with excellent clarity in mid and high frequencies. Laudable bass response without a subwoofer. Pulls audio from USB port for cleaner signal. Remote can control iTunes on your PC.

Expensive. Remote control is awkward to hold. Cables could be longer.

Hardly an overpriced design piece, the Bowers & Wilkins MM-1 is a fantastic pair of high-end PC speakers worth saving up for.

B&W MM-1 multimedia speakers review: B&W MM-1 multimedia speakers

B&W MM-1 multimedia speakers

Slick, modernist design; well-balanced, detailed sound; punchy bass; remote control included; digital connection via USB to computer.

Extraordinarily expensive; audio quality isn't as good when you move out of the sweet spot (three feet away from speakers); sound is so detailed it makes MP3s and streaming audio of already iffy quality sound worse.

We found a lot to like about the B&W MM-1 multimedia speakers, but their $500 price tag gives us pause.

Sound great, plenty of bass, (cant compete with a 2.1 system but they sound overblown after listening to these), loud enough to easily fill a room. Small footprint.

The price, Windows 7 can get confused when switching between programs needing occasional attention to send audio to the speakers (only when using usb). Just takes a moment but...

They do look great and are undoubtably good quality.

I am just a little underwhelmed by them for the money.

Take no notice of the ratings I have given; I have nothing to compare them with. They were expensive but handy. The sound is lovely. My system W7 64, with a reasonable card, doesn't give me any control over them. Don't join their Society of Sound,...

Society of Sound, whatever it's called.

Small speakers, big sound - wonderful tones. I bought these for portability, to use when away esp.on holidays - connect to my blu-ray player laptop and you have home cinema set up. Obviously they are brilliant to connect to any PC - and have your music...

Remote control - not the best it could be for the money spent.

Small cubes. Balanced sound and good detail. Acts as soundcard when connected to USB port on your computer.

Expensive. No optical input.
