Altec Lansing Octiv Mini M102 review

There's a growing trend in iPhone/iPod speaker docks. Instead of building in a bunch of features like an LCD display for the clock, and AM/FM radio, or fancy alarm systems, companies like Altec Lansing are bringing out simple speakers that leverage the...

Compact, minimalist design; plays bigger than its size; turns into full-featured alarm clock after you add Altec's Alarm Rock app; GSM-shielded so iPhone can be used without the need to switch it to airplane mode.

Take away the iPhone app and the Octiv Mini is a basic iPod speaker that's a tad more expensive than it should be; app doesn't automatically launch when you dock your device.

The Altec Lansing Octiv Mini is an ideal option for anyone seeking an affordable, minimalist iPhone speaker for the bedroom, bathroom, or kitchen.

Altec Lansing Octiv mini

With the Altec Lansing Octiv mini, a modest price gets you a modest speaker for your iPhone or iPod touch, with a useful app that turns it into an alarm clock.

Affordable. Compact. Works with free iPhone/iPod touch app to add alarm clock functionality. Intended for iPod touch and iPhone, but works with all iPods. Aux input for non-Apple players.

Weak audio performance. Only one speaker—no stereo separation. No remote control.

I originally received this when I had the iPhone 3G. I found the speaker would only work properly if the Altec app was on the phone (this is true for the iPhone 4 as well). It wouldn't be so bad, except I find the app useless and nothing more than...

It small! Fit's just about anywhere and is very portable. Good sound quality for such a small speaker

You have to have the useless Altec app on your phone for it to work properly. Error message with iPhone 3 A LOT

Altec Lansing Octiv 450

Price, not many iPad compatible speakers, Value for money, Decent quality, ability to charge, compact - got it on a really good deal.

Obviously not awesome sound, but for the price really not bad - slight model change means that the rubber holder pads I've seen on another unit are not here. - iPad2 is slightly looser in socket as this was really designed for the slightly thicker iPad.
