The Transcend SSD18M is an external storage device that uses a solid-state hard drive with no moving parts to keep data. The Intel X-25M internal drive came through the CNET labs last October and proved the benefits of SSD--faster access and boot...
Small footprint; lightweight; fast transfer speeds; eSATA and USB 2.0 connectivity.
Expensive; traditional external hard drives offer four times the storage space for 13 times less; proprietary cord required for eSATA connection.
Although the Transcend SSD18M solid-state drive is astronomically expensive, the price is balanced with its tiny footprint and impressive transfer speeds. It's easy to geek out on the beauty of the design, and even though hardcore nerds will love its...

This drive was everything I expected in an SSD. Took away the bottle neck in the Powerbook 12" of mine, now everything from booting, waking up from sleep, application start up are significantly faster and quiet. One thing you absolutely have to make...
Fast ; Quiet ; Energy-efficient ; Stable
Needed to modify the 44pin connector on Powerbook 12" a bit to accommodate the jumper pin - OTHERWISE the SSD will not wake up from sleep and causes frequent freezes

I like this drive and plan on keeping it, and I will most likely buy another one for my other laptop as well. The main problem with SSD's and IDE in laptops is the limit of ATA100/UDMA5 on most laptop motherboards. This should be the reason most SSD...
I like this drive. I paid $370 in August 09 from Newegg. 128GB is enough, and it formats to 120.35 GB under WinXP 32. I did gain about 1 hour on battery time, which is exactly what I was hoping for, since speed was not my main reason for purchase ; HD...
5 Eggs, so is there a negative? Not really, but I wanted to mention a few things about this drive, having owned over a dozen other SSD's before this one. This was my 1st IDE SSD though. I can say, if you are hyper critical of things, there is a very...

If this drive is slow in your computer, there are likely other issues involved that need to be addressed.
Upgraded my Dell Inspiron 8200 "C" drive. Fast - 60mb read / 40mb write. Fast boot up. Low power consumption. No moving parts. Would definately buy again
Expensive, but worth every penny. The heads of the screws that came with it were to tall, and prevented the drive from sliding in. Switched to flat head screws, easy fix
Consumer review (newegg.com)
If you like it slow, then this is for you!
Low power consumption, no noise or heat
This thing is slower than my 4200rpm HDD I was replacing. It also did not fit into my laptop properly
Consumer review (newegg.com)
None
Terribly slow, I haven't seen any speed above 10MB/sec (I didn't even see that but writing for the sake of it)
Consumer review (newegg.com)
If you can handle the slow speeds, the drive *is* very inexpensive. I have decided to move this drive over to the backup/archive section. Here's hoping it lasts.
Inexpensive, large capacity for the price.
Slow. Slow. Slow. The specs on this drive are woefully inaccurate. The drive doesn't even come close to the read/write speeds quoted. I get sustained reads somewhere in the 90 MB/s category which is acceptable for the price. The writes however are in...
Consumer review (rakuten.com)
Installed it in my late 2011 17" Macbook Pro (no adapters). The difference was noticeable. I can pretty much do anything in one bounce. I optimized the system for the SSD, and I know it's not a great idea, but I could not resist running some...
