Seagate 600 SSD review

Following Corsair's lead and its Neutron GTX SSD (tinyurl.com/kv954fc), Seagate has plumped for a controller from a relative newcomer in such technology, Link A Media Devices, also known as LAMD. In fact, the Seagate 600 SSD uses the same LM87800 chip...

The Seagate 600 SSD is a good value, but high-performance solid?state drive. Now over one year old, it’s available at very competitive prices, which work out at a very reasonable 42p per gigabyte for the larger-capacity 480GB capacity model.

Seagate 600 SSD

The Seagate 600 is the manufacturer's first consumer solid-state device, and it's a great first effort with some unique features.

The advent of SSDs and their eventual plunge into lower price brackets caught many traditional hard drive manufacturers by surprise. Seagate on the

Seagate 600 SSD

The Seagate 600 is the manufacturer's first consumer solid-state device, and it's a great first effort with some unique features.

Good price/performance ratio relative to its primary competition.

Significantly cheaper, albeit lower performing, drives are available.

That puts the Seagate 600 in a great position as far as its price/performance ratio—it's a great first drive from Seagate, and hopefully a sign of things to come.

Seagate 600 SSD review

The Seagate 600 SSD is a major addition to the solid-state drive market. The drive is the first consumer-grade SSD to come from Seagate, which, prior to this, offered general consumers only regular platter-based storage solutions.

The Seagate 600 SSD offers fast performance and is available in the new ultrathin 5mm thickness.

The new SSD requires the same power as a regular laptop hard drive, its current estimated cost is comparatively high, and there's no 3.5-inch drive-bay caddy included.

The Seagate 600 is an impressive first SSD outing from Seagate that offers basically all you want in a solid-state drive.

The Seagate 600 & 600 Pro SSD Review

If you had asked me back in 2008 who I thought would be leading the SSD industry in 2013 I would've said Intel, Western Digital and Seagate. Intel because of its commanding early lead in the market, and WD/Seagate because as the leaders in hard drives...

Of course the usual caveats apply. Although the LM87800 is a fairly well understood controller by this point, I'd still like to see how Seagate's validation and testing have done before broadly recommending the drive. I would assume the 600/600 Pro...

not compatible with my HP desktop

Their Customer Support is of no use. I ran SeaTools to check the health of SSD and it's fine. Then I called Seagate support and the lady confirmed with me that this SSD just doesn't want to work with my PC and that I can run a long test to verify that...

It can boot into windows 7

Gives a S.M.A.R.T Command fail error during POST. Everytime I turn on the PC I have to press F2 to continue boot into windows and it's a nuisance. I bought a Sandisk SSD and it boots flawlessly. I have a HP Pavilion p6710f

Great for AMD based systems

I've used 3 different brands of SSD's (Intel, crucial & seagate) on this AMD based rig & found that the Seagate SSD performs better on a AMD based rig. I used CrystalDiskMark to benchmark each SSD (separately) & the Seagate SSD had the better numbers....
