SanDisk Extreme 900 Portable SSD

The SanDisk Extreme 900 Portable SSD hits a rare sweet spot for solid-state drives: It's durable, versatile, speedy, and reasonably priced for its capacity.

Impact resistant. Fast performance. Can be used out of box with Mac or PC. Comes with USB-C–to–USB-C cable. Software enables 128-bit AES encryption. Reasonable price.

Bulky for an SSD.

Usually you have to make a few compromises when buying an SSD. Either you sacrifice some speed for greater capacity, minimal features, and a better price, or you plunk down a lot of cash. The Oyen Digital MiniPro 3.1, our other Editors' Choice, is a...

Sandisk Extreme 900 SSD review: 10Gbps USB 3.1 performance at last!

After testing Sandisk's new Extreme 900 portable SSD, I just have one question for the rest of the industry: What's taking so darn long? We've waited seemingly forever for 10Gbps USB 3.1 devices to arrive, and the Extreme 900's 800MBps performance has...

A drive that can hit 10Gbps USB 3.1 speeds ; Includes both USB Type C and USB Type A cables ; Gives you all the speed you demand in a portable drive

As big as a portable hard disk drive ; Not exactly cheap ; A 10Gbps USB 3.1 port is needed to take advantage of it

The SanDisk Extreme 900 Portable SSD is extremely fast and versatile

The new SanDisk Extreme 900 Portable SSD is an extremely fast portable drive. Here's CNET's full review.

The SanDisk Extreme 900 Portable SSD is super fast, and includes both a USB-C cable and a regular USB cable, so it'll work with all USB ports for the foreseeable future.

The drive is large and slightly more expensive compared to competing drives. The three-year warranty is too short.

Rugged, fast and capacious, the SanDisk Extreme 900 Portable SSD is an excellent portable drive.

SanDisk Extreme 900 Portable SSD (480GB)

It's a capacious portable drive that's a bit bulkier than other SSDs, but is worthy of its current asking price of $300 (around AU$395, £210 converted), $500 ($AU655, £350) or $800 (AU$1050, £550) for 480GB, 960GB or 1.92TB, respectively.

SanDisk Extreme 900 USB 3.1 Gen 2 Portable SSD Review

The last few years have seen rapid advancements in flash technology including planar 1x nm NAND, TLC, and 3D V-NAND. External high-speed interfaces such as USB 3.x have also become ubiquitous. The advent of Type-C has also enabled device vendors to...

SanDisk Extreme 900 Portable SSD Review

SanDisk's Extreme 900 Portable SSD provides lots of capacity and high-performance flash-based storage for working professionals on the go. The series is also one of the first to utilize USB 3.1 Gen 2 for faster file transfers.

This drive offers high performance when transferring large-block-size data, but you need to have the additional hardware to take advantage of the throughput speeds. USB 3.1 Generation 2 is new to market, and very few computers ship with the interface...

Pricing is consistent with what we would expect, but we would like to see a reduction. The drive is bulky compared to the Samsung T3 that also ships in a 2TB capacity, size but the Extreme 900 uses two SATA SSDs in RAID 0, so it has to be larger

If you need a large-capacity external SSD for large sequential files, the SanDisk Extreme 900 delivers the highest performance available at this time. If your workload involves less data, then the performance drops due to the internal RAID...
