Samsung 840 EVO 1TB review

High-capacity and high-performance, SSDs have come of age

Excellent performance ; 930GB of usable storage ; 4K random write figure very impressive ; Good price

RAPID mode did not offer a performance boost

The 1TB 840 EVO is the drive we've been waiting for and could cement Samsung at the top of the SSD tech tree. Regardless of the EVO's software bundle offering though, the performance of the hardware on its own is enough for us to be rather excited...

Samsung 840 EVO mSATA 500 GB review

The ultraportable laptop that inspired Intel to dream up the marketing label of Ultrabook also lead to a new fashion for small mSATA solid-state drives. With such a slim body it's unsurprising that Apple had to use a new storage form-factor beyond the...

The Samsung 840 EVO in its miniaturised mSATA form remains a force to be reckoned with. It effectively met the performance of the Samsung 840 EVO we first tested last year, and in some metrics was found to slightly exceed those results. If you're...

Samsung 840 EVO 750GB review

Three-layer cell (TLC) NAND flash can be a useful compromise to increase storage capacities and lower costs. But the 3-bit version of multi-layer cell (MLC) flash has an intrinsically slower write speed and shorter overall lifespan.

The Samsung 840 EVO 750GB is a triumph in solid-state technology, combining for the first time vast capacity by flash standards, with lightning performance, and at an approachable price. Smart data juggling tactics keeps its data moving briskly in...

Fantastic performance.

A smaller capacity will suit a much wider audience.

Kitguru says: A lightning quick 1TB SSD to cater to those high end system builders who don’t want to compromise on boot drive storage capacity.

Joining the 840 SSD family today is the all new 840 EVO; heralding huge storage capacities for the solid state drive - including 1TB plus RAPID Mode.

Samsung remain a formidable force in many sectors but even more so for storage and SSDs. The 830 and 840 product lines have persistently taken the limelight due to excellent performance to price ratio.

Samsung SSD 840 Evo 120GB, 500GB, 750GB, 1TB Review

Samsung's latest SSDs are superfast and available in sizes up to 1TB.

There's little to fault with the new Samsung SSD 840 Evo range of SSDs. They're good value in terms of cost per gigabyte, they're fast and they look pretty smart too. Add in the potentially rip-roaring performance provided by Rapid Mode and there's...

Samsung 840 EVO (500GB)

Whether you're a regular user or even an enthusiast, the Samsung 840 EVO (500GB) has the best price/performance ratio of any internal solid-state drive (SSD) you can buy today.

Costs just over 50 cents per GB. Performs like a standard multi-layer-cell (MLC) drive.

Its triple-level-cell (TLC) NAND isn't suitable for all workloads or scenarios.

This Samsung 840 EVO (500GB) is the SSD equivalent of having one's cake and eating it, too. When the Samsung 840 and 840 Pro launched, there was justified concern about the drive's use of TLC NAND, and a significant performance gap between the two....
