Plextor Support is Terrible.

Stick with Newegg, but dump Plextor, it's just not worth the headaches begging them for something that should be freely available to current owners of the drive since it is nothing more than a simple bios update for the SSD.

Overall Rating is 0 but Newegg forces at least a 1 which should definitely be changed

I have written 1 review but now after dealing with their "support" I feel another one is in order. The plextor customer support absolutely refuses to provide the firmware to the drive. I informed them that I am a MS certified computer tech of 15+...

Plextor PX-64M1S 2.5" 64GB SATA II Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Definitely pay a few more bucks and get a different brand drive with better support, otherwise just go with a larger non SSD drive.. You'll be much happier in the end and won't have to do without your new SSD for 4-6 weeks.

Picked this drive up for $85.00 Free shipping, great deal on a 64GB SD... But that's about all I can say good here

Would definitely advise people not to go with this or any other plextor drive. Reason is that this model of the drive is the first version, but the other version comes with Trim support, this drive has the same exact specs and it is only a matter of a...

Performance degradation

If you can get this drive for $80 it may be worth it, anything over that it's just too expansive compared to other SSDs.

It's still faster than HDD

After using this product for 6 months, it shows noticeable write performance degradation. I was wrong to expect that Plextor will release firmware update with TRIM support at some point. There is firmware and newer revision of this drive with TRIM but...

Fine, but has 2 big flaws

Plextor is new to the SSD market, and does not yet understand that people need to be able to upgrade firmware at home. They will not let you upgrade the firmware to the newest version (the new one includes TRIM).

Slower SSD is a good match for older laptops and older operating systems (like Windows XP) ; SSD is in a brushed/cast metal case, not a cheap plastic shell

Writes appear to be limited to about 45 mb/s after a few weeks of use. This is due to the lack of TRIM support ; Plextor will not let you upgrade the firmware to the newest version (the new one includes TRIM)

WoW!

no trim support but just get ssd tweaker and ccleaner and your set. ccleaner lets you erase unused files permanently just go to setting and choose erasing method to 1 pass or the method. very useful or try revouninstaller their evidence eraser also works.

cheap 85, fast, intalled win7 ultimate for less than 20 mins maybe 15 mins... nice design, very light compare to my old hdd. fast boot for win7 and opening apps

no trim support

Good for the money!

The details of the product, both here and on the Plextor site, show it using 0.75 watts when active. The box says it uses 2.5 watts when active.

Price per GB is really good ; Feels as fast as my more expensive SSDs ; Best looking hard drive I have ever seen

Plextor does not allow users to upgrade the drive firmware. To get the new firmware, you must mail the drive in for service when it slows down (due to not having support for TRIM) ; Perhaps if enough owners ask Plextor for the firmware, they will let...

Ehh...stick to something else

There are better brands out there; spend a little more and get a large performance increase.

It looks nice

Everything else. It is faster than my factory HD, but not by much. It does not work in my HP DV6000. As someone before me mentioned, you have to change BIOS settings to get this to work, but in my case, the BIOS does not let me do that. As a result,...

Great SSD drive!

A really good average user's SSD. If your into utmost performance this isn't your drive. But if you want a little snappier performance from the lagging component on any computer and feed the CPU what it can actually work with, yep this is the drive. ...

DOES support AHCI. Decent performance for an SSD, which is to say better than most 2.5" HD's. HD Tune states: 112 mb/s read average, 88mb/s write average. SSD Tweaker (search it) does a great job of setting up the computer for proper SSD performance....

Acronis software that ships with it can only clone FROM same size or smaller drives. Refused three times to properly clone Lenovo X100e, S10-3 or T43 ; Small size... But price to size this is better than most

Solid but ..

I purchased this drive for business use, speed was secondary concern to reliability, simplicity and durability. Specs claim it has intelegent wear leveling and no performance degradation over time. Will be able to judge those claims after some time....

Extremely low power consuption, fast compared to HDD, On a low spec laptop Ubuntu 10.4 beta boots in less than 10 sec, Windows 7 in 20 sec

BIOS on my laptop (Dell Vostro V13) refuses to recognize presence of this drive if set to AHCI mode, switching BIOS to ATA mode makes drive work but you lose some important features. No TRIM (didn't care as Linux is still not supporting that). I assume...
