Plextor 128GB M5M mSATA SSD Review

Today we are looking at a new mSATA drive from Plextor – the 128GB M5M. Diminutive mSATA drives are without doubt a growing market, adopted in many laptop computers today. As we have seen in recent desktop motherboard reviews on Kitguru many...

Good (128GB) size for a boot drive ; excellent compressible and incompressible performance results ; very competitive pricing

Be aware of many mSATA slot limitations on current motherboards

Kitguru says: A wicked fast mSATA drive suited for boot duties.

Plextor SSD PX-128M5Pro (great drive horrible NTI software)

The Plextor drives deserve 5 eggs and that is what I based my rating on- just the SSD drive- If I was to rate the just the NTI software it get 0 Egg's, since negative eggs isn't an option. Get the drives forget the NTI software- Acronis (sp?) works...

Performance is very good, the included drive bay adapter to mount in 3.5 inch bay is decent. Bought 5 for desktop upgrade will be purchasing more. The drives have been performing very well, Very noticeable performance increases in boot times, also...

included software (download-package includes key only you need to download) the NTI software as posted by others has its share of issues! I've been a hardware /software tech over 22 years. The NTI software is unstable!- Some drive copies worked and...

Worth it

Original bought two of these to run in raid 1 for OS but speed with these and load times from cold start is only about 5 seconds so never ran raid.

Very fast stable solution and for size and price was a great deal

Scored only 8.2 on Windows 8 WEI

Installed on an ASRock H77M-ITX motherboard SATA3 port running Windows 8 Pro in UEFI BIOS mode. With the BIOS set to Fast boot and the Windows 8 boot splash screen, lock out screen, and login screen disabled, a cold boot took 12.3 seconds (using a stop...

01. Included a 3.5" bracket ; 02. Came with the latest firmware (1.05) ; 03. 5 years warranty

Did not receive a perfect score on the Windows 8 WEI

Much Quicker than Vertex 3 240Gb

Probably not as fast as the Samsung 840 Pro. That said, this M5Pro Xtreme should last much longer (M5Pro Xtreme MTFB is 2.4 million, Samsung 840 Pro is 1.5 million). This is a trade off I purposefully made. Secondly, the peak latency of this drive is...

I am using this drive as a replacement for my Vertex 3 240gb. I am surprisingly pleased with the outcome. The Vertex 3 loaded Windows 8 in about 1.25 "spins". After cloning my old vertex 3 (with the included software), the M5Pro Xtreme 120gb loads...
