Buffalo LinkStation Pro (1TB)

Broad range of features. Decent performance. USB port for extra storage, print server or UPS. Power-management switch is an interesting feature.

Web UI is slow to the point of giving up. Hard drive isn't user-serviceable.

The LinkStation Pro has a diverse feature set and impressive performance for a device of this size. If Buffalo can drastically speed up the UI to reduce frustration with the next revision, it'll have a clear winner on its hands.

Excellent bit of kit

Installed device as per instructions, note you have to temporarily disable all firewalls during installation, both Windows own, and any 3rd party ones. The device then auto configures itself to become visible on the network. The default 'share' folder...

How to resolve Buffalo NAS issues - a suggestion...

To resolve all issues with this device I recommend throwing it against a hard floor - concrete is good. This breaks the device which means you don't have to worry about pulling the plug out of your windows 7 machine every 2 hours, or wonder just what...

Not stable - don't trust your data to it

Despite upgrading to the latest firmware and software the device is way way too unstable to be anything other than a novelty.

Stay Away

I didn't buy the product from newegg. The reason I'm reviewing it is to warn prospect buyer about it. it is not worth the money. I'm not satisfied with this unit.

Ethernet connection, bit torrent client

Very very slow, useless advertised 1-GB Ethernet connection (3MB/s) which is slower the USB 1.1 (12MB/s) ; It failed twice in one year of light use

Does the Job

My needs for this was more media based for all my DLNA devices and smartphones. I do not store important files on this for lack of redundancy and fault tolerance. (There's only one Drive, so I can stand to lose my copies of The Walking Dead tv show)...

Setup was relatively easy. Had to update the firmware out the box. Had some minor troubleshooting, but it was due to me being impatient. 2nd attempt to update firmware, being patient this time, worked out. Works very well with DLNA and can stream...

Accessing media while on the go was rather slow, but I was attempting to stream a 2GB movie. Updating firmware over the web was rather painfully slow. Forums suggested a manual update, but I was looking for more ease of use

not bad

I end up to call buffalo for help because of the poor manual, and the tech support(the guy I talk to) help me like he is working free(unpaid). I ask him a question "do I have to reboot ?" and he said "I can end the call if you don't want to", and after...

work as it should, more space, raid 1 to prevent data lose

building Raid aray are take litle bit long, web access are too slow, and poor manual. all cons = -1 egg

Good Product - Buy one

My setup is at home with 2 to 4 PCs connected with the Win 7 'homegroup' thing. NAS plugged into my DLINK 655 router. Wanted NAS to 1) run FTP for pictures, etc, with folks in foreign lands; 2) put Picasa database and files so wife can play with Picasa...

Setup was quick and easy despite my total ignorance about networking stuff. Win 7 Explorer seems happy moving files to/from the NAS, creating folders, etc. Very happy with the speed. Some manufactures' claims are extremely optimistic, but this...

Web admin interface could be cleaner and should offer more context help for novices like me (hence minus one egg). The user account access restriction stuff is too messy, especially since the FTP uses a different restriction set which intersects with...

BUFFALO LS-XH1.0TL 1TB LinkStation Pro Network Attached Storage

Plenty of space. Easy to set up

I'd have to buy a second one to have everything backed up on it

Not able to connect to Apple Time Machine

Probably would have worked after hours of researching, but not worth the time. Not something that would be easy for family members to access. I plan to go with an Apple Airport Extreme which allows better interaction between mac computers and external...

Shiny, black, many features

I own a mac, and found the interface to be difficult to work with. Significantly less user-friendly than what I am used to. Ran into multiple problems getting Mac Time Machine to recognize the device and connect to it (did not get it to work even after...
