Samsung Gear S2

Samsung's back catalogue of smartwatches has been, to put it mildly, poor. The vast array of Gear-branded wearables have been bulky, ugly and running an operating system devoid of killer features and decent apps.

Bright, sharp display ; Rotating bezel is the best wearable feature yet ; Not limited to Samsung handsets

Tizen is limiting ; Expensive for what you get ; Poor, slow voice search

A well-built smartwatch with a great screen, but it’s let down by a lack of support and the half-baked Tizen operating system.

Samsung Gear S2 review

A real rival to Apple Watch and Android Wear

Smart round design ; Innovative rotating bezel ; Tizen OS is polished ; Works with many Android phones

Slow voice control ; Too few high quality apps ; Lacks customisation options

This is by far Samsung's best smartwatch yet, from its smarter, round design to the clever rotating bezel. However, the Gear S2 still looks and feels more like a tech lover's device, and lacks a developer community.

Hands on Samsung Gear S2 review: a radical rival to the Apple Watch

It's round, sleek and wants onto your wrist

'Hands on reviews' are a journalist's first impressions of a piece of kit based on spending some time with it.It may be just a few moments, or a few hours. The important thing is we have been able to play with it ourselves and can give you some sense...

Samsung Gear S2 review: a giant leap in smartwatch design

Can Samsung challenge Apple for smartwatch dominance?

Excellent screen ; Innovative rotating bezel ; Slick Tizen UI

Limited number of apps ; Lacking customisation options ; Poor voice control

Samsung Gear S2 review: The Tizen gamble

You may know Samsung as the lead manufacturer for Android, with its smartphone sales decimating those of the official Nexus series. However, it also has a habit of going off on a tangent, in the occasional bid for world domination. The Samsung Gear S2...

Well implemented bezel control, good build quality, always-on screen option

Expensive, poor third-party app support, Huawei Watch aces design

The Samsung Gear S2 makes a pretty good first impression. It looks much less embarrassing than the Gear S and the rotary dial on the front feels good and is properly integrated into the software.

Samsung Gear S2 3G Review: In Depth

Samsung Gear S2 3G review: Samsung knows wearables and whilst this isn't the first offering to pack a cellular radio, adding 3G to the company's...

Great hardware and user experience ; World’s first wearable with eSIM ; Attractive design ; Robust software

Requires monthly contract ; Inconsistent battery life ; Expensive

You could argue that the Samsung Gear S2 3G is the best smartwatch around right now, with its balance of attractive hardware, intelligent user interface, performance, and functionality, but smartwatches are still a niche product category and the 3G...

Samsung Gear S2 3G review

One of the biggest complaints of smartwatches is that they're really just dependent accessories to your phone. They need a phone to work.

The 3G version of the Gear S2 has all the features and design of Samsung's Wi-Fi-only S2 smartwatch, but adds a speakerphone and built-in GPS along with full standalone phone and data service.

It's more expensive, requires a connected data plan to pair with, and runs out of battery life quickly on cellular. It's bulkier, too. Also, the Gear S2 3G doesn't have that many great apps, and it doesn't yet work with iPhones.

Samsung's cellular-enabled smartwatch adds some interesting features to the Gear S2, but it's just not easy or useful enough to justify the extra expense.

Samsung Gear S2 smartwatch review

During IFA 2015 in Berlin, Samsung unveiled its latest smartwatch, the Samsung Gear S2. The circular smartwatch is the first of its kind from Samsung, and the company promised exciting things regarding the Gear S2, but did the company deliver? We've...

Based on our time with the Samsung Gear S2, we think it's a sleek smartwatch with an attractive design. It offers fairly standard smartwatch features like fitness tracking, but also includes some rather interesting features including a rotating bezel...

Samsung Gear S2 review

It's all about the bezel with Samsung's latest smartwatch

Rotating bezel feels great ; Well-made ; Interesting, fairly intuitive UI

Very expensive ; Very poor apps selection ; Battery life just OK with always-on screen ; Slow voice commands ; No iPhone support

Elements of hardware design genius sit atop refreshing but ultimately very limiting software

Samsung Gear S2 review: A new spin on smartwatches

A great design and a clever rotating bezel make this one of the best-looking Android watches ever -- but it doesn't run Android Wear.

The Gear S2 has an eye-catching design, a clever rotating bezel that's actually useful, beautiful display, solid health tracking and slightly better battery life than other high-end smartwatches. Plus, it works with a variety of Android phones.

Fewer available apps or seamless connected services than Android Wear and Apple Watch; no speakerphone; S-Voice commands work, but not as well as they could; not compatible with iPhone.

Samsung's newest smartwatch reinvents itself with a whole new look and feel to create one of the best-designed wrist gadgets around -- but it still lacks the apps to set it above the competition.
