Mio Alpha Watch

This is not a GPS unit as some may think but a watch, a rather special watch that not only tells the time but can also give you your pulse rate at any time by the simple press of a button, no chest band just wear the watch on your wrist.

This was one of a few items I was interested in at a recent distributor event held at the London Film Museum that is in County Hall on the side of the river Thames. It was the first item I saw as it was just inside the door and by the time I had been...

MIO Alpha BLE

For running, cycling, and plenty of other endurance sports, the MIO Alpha BLE represents a major upgrade in comfort and ease-of-use in heart rate monitors, but it's also quite expensive in comparison.

Reads heart rate without the need for a chest strap. Accurate. Comfortable. Rechargable battery. Waterproof.

Somewhat expensive. Chunky. Heart rate is the only personal data measured.

If in its second or third iteration the MIO Alpha can add a few key personal fitness tracking features, such steps taken and total distance traveled, it might be a five-star product. The question is whether it will get there first, as the competition...

Review: Mio Alpha continuous heart rate monitor

Mio's Alpha can keep the pace, but makes some missteps

Accurate heart rate monitoring ; Comfortable product design ; Solid app interoperability

Puzzling control design choices ; Makes this scratchy noise ; Somewhat pricey

Quiet as it's kept, we here at Electronista do like to step out to the gym or on a nice run from time to time, and the data tracking capabilities of wearable fitness devices have piqued our interest. One such device is the Alpha strapless heart rate

Mio Alpha Review: One Giant Leap For Heart Rate Monitors

Chest-strap heart rate monitors suck. I mean, yeah, they work OK, but they give you that tight-chest am-I-having-a-heart-attack feeling. That's why the Mio Alpha, a wristwatch that accurately measures your heart rate, is such a big deal. But that...

It’s a tough call. It’s easily the best heart rate monitor watch yet, but part of that is because the others have been so bad. The Alpha mostly works really well, most of the time. If that’s good enough for you, and/or if you hate your chest strap that...
