Honor Band Z1 review

Honor enters the world of the cheap fitness tracker

Low cost ; Comfortable strap ; Watch-like design

Lack of functionality ; No Windows 10 Mobile support ; Sluggish screen

The Honor Band Z1 is a strong attempt at a wearable from the young Chinese company, but it's not the best you can buy right now.

Honor Band Z1 review: Jack of some trades, master of none

The Honor Band is neither the prettiest nor the most functional fitness tracker – so who's it for?

So there we have it: the Honor Band is basically a Fitbit that tells the time, but in a fashion that’s considerably less discrete, in a package that isn’t stylish enough for that to be a positive. That would be fine and dandy if it offered something...

Huawei's $80 smartwatch isn't worth it

The first wearable to come out of Huawei's "Honor" sub-brand looks nice, but it can't even compete with a device from 2013.

Honor Band Z1 review: A simple, basic, affordable smartwatch

I'm a little bored with Android Wear. It feels like every new version is about style rather than functionality. Part of that is Google's doing, as it's still figuring out what works, and part of that can be attributed to the manufacturers who want to...

Comfortable, attractive design that makes us wish all Android Wear watches looked like this ; Accurate fitness tracking and sleep counting

Companion app is limited in functionality ; Display is finicky and doesn't always respond to your taps and swipes

This basic smartwatch can tell the time, push through notifications, and count your steps, but that's the extent of it.

Huawei Honor Band Z1

The Huawei Honor Band Z1 is an attractive $79 fitness tracker that looks like a smartwatch, but its feature set is pretty basic.

Affordable. Attractive design. Comfortable. Decent fitness and sleep tracking.

Limited features. Barebones app. Display doesn't always respond to gestures. Notifications and alerts didn't work properly in testing.

Conclusions Aside from sleek looks and a good price, there really isn't much to the Huawei Honor Band Z1. Sure, it's a fine choice if you're looking for an attractive sleep and step tracker, but if you're serious about quantifying your fitness, better...
