D-Link Omna 180 Cam

The D-Link Omna 180 Cam is the first Apple HomeKit-certified security camera. Integrating with the Home app in iOS 10, the camera can be controlled alongside your other smart home kit via touch or voice.

It's great to see more HomeKit devices, but the lack of Android support and the need to use two apps detract.

D-Link Omna review

Editors' note (September 28, 2017): D-Link's Omna now works with Android devices.

D-Link's $200 Omna security camera captures 180 degrees of zoned motion activity and promptly sends related push alerts. View locally saved videos in the app and download unlimited clips with a microSD card reader. Ask Siri the status of your security...

The Omna doesn't offer sound alerts or work with Android devices. Its HomeKit integrations are limited to a relatively small number of compatible devices, especially when you compare it to Amazon Alexa.

Don't buy D-Link's Omna camera unless you're completely dedicated to HomeKit and are willing to wait for a broader range of products to work with the smart home platform.

D-Link Omna 180 Cam HD review

The Omna 180 is a reasonable option, if you want to use Homekit as your smart home hub.

HomeKit ease-of-use ; 180-degree lens ; MicroSD card slot ; Full HD resolution

HomeKit lacks some automation options ; No cloud storage ; File management woes

It’s difficult to review a HomeKit accessory without also reviewing HomeKit itself. As a preview of the smart homes of the future, the platform shows a lot of promise. At the moment, it’s bogged down by limitations that prevent smart cameras from...

D-Link's HomeKit camera isn't a slam dunk

If you're sold on the HomeKit platform, the $200 D-Link Omna camera might be for you. Everyone else should steer clear.

D-Link Omna 180 Cam HD Review: HomeKit’s first camera is raw

Apple's HomeKit makes a simple promise: take the disparate parts of the connected home, and bring them together under one straightforward umbrella. Still, the stringent requirements around things like security and ease of setup has meant partner...

D-Link Omna 180 Cam HD review: The first HomeKit-certified security camera

The Omna plays nice with other HomeKit accessories and Siri commands.

Excellent video quality ; Responsive, accurate motion detection ; Apple HomeKit certified

HomeKit's relatively small number of compatible accessories might limit Omna's appeal

D-Link’s Omna is a solid security camera. The image quality is great, motion detection is reliable with plenty of customization for adapting it to different situations, and the Omna companion app is elegant and easy to use. If you’re just looking for a...

Review: D-Link's HomeKit-connected Omna 180 is a great pet, baby or nanny cam, but security hounds should look elsewhere

If you don't feel a need to be covert with a live camera feed from your home, the D-Link Omna 180 is a great choice for keeping tabs on your pets or loved ones. It's also the first HomeKit-enabled camera on the market, but security-focused users should...

For all of the pros and cons of the hardware and software associated with the Omna 180, for most users it's going to come down to a decision of whether the free local micro SD storage is an asset or a detriment.

D-Link Omna Review: Apple HomeKit compatible connected camera
