The Visioneer Strobe 500's combination of superior performance, excellent image quality, versatile features, and easy operation earned it the top ranking among the five portable scanners we tested for our latest roundup.

The Visioneer Strobe 500 scanner is both portable and a good choice as a desktop document scanner.

Portable. Docking station adds automatic document feeder. Fast text recognition. Digitally enhances hard-to-read originals.

Both attaching the scanner to and removing the scanner from the docking station is a little tricky. ; Watch the Visioneer Strobe 500!

Decent scanner for the price

 

For the price this scanner is a good choice if it is for occasional use. If you regularly scan many receipts a day, look elsewhere.

When scanning duplex on a cable longer than 6' the scanner errors out and has to be reset every few pages. I've ran into this with other scanners as well so I probably has nothing to do with this model. Best to just use the included USB cable.

This is a decent scanner for the price. I've been using one for a couple years now with no real complaints when it comes to regular paper.

When scanning receipts or anything on that thin waxy type of paper the scanner sometimes just crumples them up.

Verified product configuration on newegg website that ADF was included, as well as provantage, amzn, e bay, and visioneer, and newegg clearly shipped me the wrong product and a used product. Tried to call, closed. Tried to chat (supposed to be open...

Often Frustrating to Use

 

I have three of these machines for over two years. The longer I have them the less well the hardware and software works. The scanning software often locks up and to remedy this I have to either exit and re-run the program, turn the scanner off and on...

Solidly built, produces quality images. provides options on resolution/file size trade-off plus choice of black and white, gray scale and color. Will produce pdf files and has a primative drawing program to edit files.

Document feeder often does not grabe the first sheet. Scanning software often locks up.

Setup was quick and easy. Paper misfeeds are rare. Too bad this item became deactivated a week after I bought it. On the bright side I found a PlusTek machine that works just as well if not better than this one, at a lesser cost.
