Visioneer - Strobe 400

Scanners are big chunky devices, normally found on top of inkjet printers, aren't they? Flatbed scanners, of which that's a fair description, are bigger than a sheet of A4 paper and contain slightly fragile sheets of ...

This is an effective, well-designed paper-feed scanner, which includes a facility to scan both sides of the paper, unusual in a portable device. The only downside we can see is the cost of the machine, which at £220 is a lot more than a typical...

Visioneer Strobe 400

The Visioneer Strobe 400 combines portability and duplex (two-sided) scanning.

Duplex (two-sided) scanning. Gets power from AC adaptor or over USB connection. Can scan plastic (thick) cards.

Manual feed only. Scored poorly for business cards.

Visioneer STROBE-400

I bought five of these to use at our doctor's office for scanning insurance and ID cards into our computer system. Initially installed on Windows XP 32bit. The software didn't work right and support gave me a link to a "power tools" fix that resolved...

Small foot print on the desk. Quick, reasonably good quality scans. Most of the time. Good product for the price if you're using Windows XP

Almost always blurry on one side. Doesn't scan entire page width in Win7 64bit no matter what

Works with Win 7

With respect to what lmalinofsky said, the bundeled PaperPort 11.1 DOES WORK WITH WINDOWS 7. I have it working on a Win 7 Ultimate X64 system.

FAST, duplex

Scans not always straight

Bundled software does not work with Windows 7

If you are still running Windows XP, this might be a good choice. But you'd have to buy a new version of PaperPort (12.1) for $99.00 if you upgraded to Windows 7.

When these scanners work right they are GREAT and depending on the version of One-Touch software you get, easy to use.

I should point out that PaperPort 11 *does not work* with Windows 7. You need PaperPort 12.1.

Fast!

AC adapter is supplied if you don't have enough USB ports.

Really fast! Does Duplex in one pass. Comes with PaperPort 11 and Omni Page.

Scans not always straight. Takes 2 USB ports to supply enough power but I guess that's what makes it fast.
