When contacting Motorola support for a question about the unit I learned that this model is a "Custom Unit" designed and specially configured for "Blood Bank" applications. While it was not clear to me what that means (did not care as that is not my...

Great unit, works with Quick Books Point of Sale. Fast reader and works up to 8 inches away. Was able to just copy a bar code to have enter function
I paid full price but needed it

One of the other reviewers said that they got bought out so the future was uncertain well that isn't the case. They were bought out by Motorola a few years ago and the products have kept being great. I do installs and tech support for a point of sale...
Plug and Play, all you do is plug it in and scan some bar codes to configure it the way you want. Very easy

It works as a standard HID device, so if you can make a USB keyboard work this will work. It also has an awesome stand that comes with it. And if you put the scanner in the stand there is a magnet in the stand that will keep the scanner scanning. So...
It would be nicer to be a bit cheaper. But for how awesome it is compared to other scanners, I don't mind. My ideal price point for this type of scanner would be about $75-80

Bought to replace old Symbol point of sale scanner on it's last leggs. The scanner installed in minutes, worked from the get go, and is still going strong. It does what it should do, and does it well. Looks like we will be ordering more to replace our...

Real simple setup - plug it in and your ready to use the scanner. Comes with a full sheet of pre-configured settings for different barcode standards
The scanner stand is pretty lame
Consumer review (newegg.com)
It took me a while to find a laser barcode scanner that was known to work with Linux. So if you were searching like I was, search no further.
Even though the web site does not mention Linux, this device works perfectly as a USB keyboard wedge on my Linux Eee PC. Programming the device involved scanning 4 codes. Now it is a HID USB device that reads bar codes followed by a carriage return....
I have yet to find a problem with this device

Works fine for intended applications... inside, light industrial or retail use

The SDK is apparently little or no help
The hardware installation is a breeze and the device works out of the box with MS Excel 2000. That unfortunately is all that is good about the Symbol LS2208 scanner
I work for Social Services and we bought 8 of the Symbol LS2208 scanners in August. Since then 5 out of the 8 scanners have failed. That is a 62.5% failure rating. We have verified that the failure was due to manufacturer defect and not due to a power...
