Quit working after scanning 5 slides, USB problem, no help from tech support

If you are thinking about buying this scanner, first download the Macintosh drivers and have a look at the dates of the files. Mostly 2002 to 2003 PPC stuff from early operating systems. Nothing that runs natively on a mac with an intel processor, so...

Easy to clean surface makes it an ideal doorstop.

Stops working after scanning 5 slides, and doesn't do a very good job.

Out of focus results.

Setting up and using the scanner is easy when you follow the directions.

The results are out of focus. No way to recognize a face for example.

Good quality if you work at it.

Easy to set up, and good picture quality if you work at it.

You have to fiddle a lot with settings.Automatic exposure doesn't work well.

Avoid the 1800u

I was helping my mother evaluate scanners. She needed to do a large quantity of slides. I suggested ...

Inexpensive, small on the desktop

Inexpensive, poor quality scans
