PC Plus review: Microtek ScanMaker i700

Colour rendition is accurate and tonal range is good, with accuracy in highlight and lowlight areas alike. However, there's more than a hint of noise in dark areas, especially in blue skies. Ultimately, the picture quality of the i700 is a letdown conside

ScanMaker i700

The new Microtek flatbed scanner offers the high resolution and ICE dust-busting of its top i900 model but in a much more compact body that gets rid of the original dual 'plates' in favour of a conventional glass bed and illuminated hood.

This high resolution flatbed scanner has Digital ICE, and a decent feature and software set. An attractively priced all-rounder.

It's poor when it comes to 35mm film.

A combination of Abbyy FineReader OCR software and decent 1-bit resolution makes the i700 very good for digitizing books

Microtek ScanMaker i700

The i700 scanner is as slow as a swamp turtle, but it does offer superb photo repair features at a great price.

If you do fast-paced, heavy-volume production work, we can't recommend the sluggish i700 in spite of its stellar image-repair features.

Microtek ScanMaker 6000

The handsome, all-black Microtek ScanMaker 6000 ($150 street) is sleek, trim, and nicely contoured. But it is by far the slowest scanner in our roundup.

As the least expensive scanner in our roundup, the ScanMaker 6000 should appeal to bargain-conscious users who crave one-button convenience over performance.

SCANMAKER I900 CLR FB 6400X3200 48BIT LGL USB FW TMA DIGITAL-ICE

I''m happy with the scanner and would recommend it to anyone who can be patient to get the job done right!

This does an excellent job of scanning 35mm slides which is what I bought it for. I tried an auto feed machine first(more $$) and that just kept jamming on the old slides I was working on. This took a bit longer but with the included software I was...

The higher dpi you select the slower it scans. Very large piece of equipment.

SCANMAKER I900 CLR FB 6400X3200 48BIT LGL USB FW TMA DIGITAL-ICE

This scanner is good enough for most of our work. It produces very professional work.

Excellent scanner for the price. We have used it for two weeks scanning different media such as positive, transparency & slides. The auto detect feature for slides is perfect for us. Color calibration is near perfect with Mac platform & Photoshop. The...

Loading the initial application softwares is a little confusing. It takes us more than just loading the CD to get it working.
