Reasonable price, image restoration features, high resolution
Nothing notable
The Perfection 4180 Photo is a reasonably priced, very high resolution scanner with some nifty image restoration software.

This high-resolution scanner combines impressive image quality and features with a reasonable price.
This versatile scanner provides state-of-the-art image enhancement and wins hands down in its ability to batch-scan 35mm slides.

Although it's a flatbed scanner, the Epson Perfection 4180 Photo also scans medium-format and 35-mm film.
Better scan quality than most flatbed scanners, particularly for slides. Color restore feature for faded photos. Claimed 4,800 pixel-per-inch (ppi) optical resolution.
Dust and grain reduction features work with film only. OCR program had trouble reading Times New Roman fonts.

Consumer review (newegg.com)
I had a fine Epson scanner. Then I upgraded a couple years ago to a Minolta Dualscan dedicated slide/negative scanner. That scanned at 2880 dpi. It only held 4 slides or one strip of 6 negative frames. But the quality was excellent. 8x10 prints from an...
