The Canoscan 8400F is one of Canon's better specified home office scanners and thus we were expecting good things. After testing it we have to say we'...
Useful shortcut buttons
Could be a tad quicker, poor quality film negative scanning
Good at scanning photos and documents, fails miserably at scanning film

Most flatbed scanners that offer slide and film scanning do so as a convenience feature, not for serious scanning. The Canon CanoScan 8400F is the exception, and comes at a surprisingly low price ($149.99 direct). Its scans rival more expensive,...
Excellent slide-scan quality for a flatbed scanner. Fast scans. Color-restore feature revives old photos. Scans directly to PDF format
No ADF. Dust and scratch removal feature doesn't meet our expectations
When it comes to photos, slides, and film, the Canon CanoScan 8400F shines. The built-in transparency adapter and the film guides work with 35-mm slides, 35-mm film, and 120 format film, with astoundingly good results for a flatbed scanner. The scans...

Are you looking for an inexpensive but efficient solution to scan your pictures and slides? Then our review might be of great interest to you. We are going to discuss another offering from Canon that supports FARE Level 3 hardware dust and scratches...
So this is the end of today's tests and it's time to sum everything up. The Canon CanoScan 8400F has proved to be a really fast scanner with a rather small lamp warm-up time. I want to advise you however not to skip the calibration procedure, which is...

This flatbed scanner-a lower-end sibling of the CanoScan 9900F-offers impressive speed and solid scan quality.
Full complement of software ; fast scan times ; good mix of price and features
Only 8-bit grayscale (16-bit internal) ; limited film formats
Software setup is getting a little easier with Canon's scanners. Although you still need to install several separate apps, you're now guided through the process by a single installation wizard. The 8400F supports both high-speed USB 2.0 as well as USB...

The supplied ScanGear CS software allows users to select scan or output resolutions and match scan resolutions to output sizes. However there is no facility for scanning to a fixed file size (eg; 10MB).
Competitive price for features ; Produces colour accurate scans ; Useful bundled software
Limited scanning options ; Limited crop control with high-resolution scans
The supplied ScanGear CS software allows users to select scan or output resolutions and match scan resolutions to output sizes. However there is no facility for scanning to a fixed file size (eg; 10MB). . . [more]

I was unaware that no software would be included and wanted to point out to others who assumed. No returns either
I don't know yet
This does not include the CD to install the software. You have to go thru Canon and the Arcsoft Photostudio is not included
Consumer review (newegg.com)
awesome product
Scans negatives perfectly
Scanning actual photos in the flatbed doesn't come out as nicely as negatives

10 canon Cameras and 6 scanners and this is my first call to Canon support. A stateside guy, proficient, professional, patient, and he got it done for me!
It looks nice
Won't work on Mac or XP systems. Canon cutomer support confirms a harware problem. Lock switch id intermittent.....mostly locked regardless of position. Had it 24 hours before Canon agreed to send another unit. This time they say it will be tested...
Consumer review (newegg.com)
Wasn't to expensive when i bought it and using other scanning software it does really good pictures, for the price i paid for it
My only problem with this scanner was that like the other reviewers said it had white spots under the glass when i recived it and they are very noticable when your scanning
