Topfield TRF-7160 PVR

Topfield's TRF-7160 is a personal video recorder (PVR) with a 500GB hard drive and two digital TV tuners. You can record shows onto its internal hard ...

Twin tuners, can record up to four programs simultaneously, Xvid and DivX playback, USB port for external hard drive, 10/100 Ethernet connection, Web interface, quick channel changing

Media interface not intuitive for file playback, can only upload one file at a time via Web interface, remote control layout is not intuitive, blue LED on the front panel is always on

The Topfield TRF-7160 is a versatile PVR with two digital TV tuners and a 500GB hard drive; it can record up to four TV shows at once. It also has network connectivity and a USB port, so you can get recordings off it and also put DivX, Xvid, MP3 and...

Topfield TRF7160

A PVR that performs the essential PVR functions, but without much in the way of grace.

Dual tuners ; 500GB storage ; Not Freeview crippled ; Supports net access

Poorly designed remote control ; Ethernet port configuration best left to networking types

The TRF7160 ticks the right PVR boxes in most important aspects, but we can't say it's a particularly engaging choice. It's hampered by the need for complex networking set-up in order to get remote access working and by a poorly laid out remote...

Topfield has another winner!

I was blessed to have used a Topfield model since 2005 and loved it. Great in all aspects. It died a natural death and I was keen to replace it - I spent 30mins trying a Kogan SOB piece of arse before googling better options. Topfield7160 sang out as...

"With addion of TAPs, pretty much excellent"

Heaps of skipping TAPs other enhacements over at the itropfield forum. With the addition of these its hard to fault.

All good - need a few TAPs

Some minor faults fixed by TAPs

"Great features but remote a bit complicated"

To ,add ,time at the start or end of a ,recording is very easy -it is permanently set up in Settings from the Menu button. It is called Padding - Front (beginning) and Rear (end)

editing recordings on device

can't record to external drive, easy to corrupt external if not removed correctly

Topfield TRF7160

I used a TRF7160 to recieve and record the 3DTV broadcast of the 2010 football grand final and it worked. It recorded the program, decoded the mpg4 signal and sent the side by side picture to my 3DTV. It worked great, so the TRF7160 is mpg4 and 3D ready.

3D TV ready

People complain about jumping and pixilating when playing recorded programs. I have a TF7000 which I have had for several years and a TRF-7160 for almost 3 & a half years, the 7000 has never put a foot wrong but the 7160 started jumping and pixilating....
