Many critics have said that YouView is too little, too late. The combined Freeview HD and on-demand TV service was supposed to launch around years ago, but has suffered from various delays. It officially launched back in July 2012, but BT's YouView box...
If you want a PVR that will give you Freeview HD and catch-up TV all in one easy-to-use box, this is hard to beat, especially if you're getting it free with your broadband package. It's certainly worth having BT Vision as well, especially as more...

An improved electronic program guide, and the ability to scroll back and find past programmes and play them on demand, are attractive - though the lack of Wi-Fi (or dongles) is an annoyance. By Kate Bevan
seamless on-demand content; excellent EPG; easy to use
lack of onboard Wi-Fi; slow start-up; no DNLA functionality

The Freeview's platform first serious assault on the PVR market
Excellent integration of on-demand content ; All VoD players from Free to Air big hitters present ; Presentation of menus and GUI is first class ; Very dependable with recordings ; Timer clashes handled very well ; Suggests high definition where...
No padding options ; Optical audio output 2.0 only ; HDMI output 1080p only ; Lack of 'finesse' PVR features ; Some MHEG lock ups ; No networking or media playback options ; No WiFi

lots of memory
it can't record more than two programmes at once

Easy to set up
None so far

When you already have 2 simultaneous recordings scheduled and you request a 3rd recording that overlaps, it asks you if you would like to record the 3rd item from another time that it is broadcast - neat.
There is no single key from the remote control that takes you into the TV guide - one of the most commonly used keys

It a fantastic piece of kit. I have been using PVR's for over decade and this device has been designed to be very user friendly and easy to understand and set up. The facility to look back in time on your on your programme guide and click on ones...
It doesn't handle scheduled programme recording conflicts all that well. I get lost in the menu system sometimes. It's not cheap (but it is still good value).

Very easy to setup, nice menu system, finally all catchup TV actually on your TV, No subscription.
Streaming in HD can occasionally pause to buffer (fine in SD with 10Mb Virgin Media). Remote makes an annoying clicking sound every time you press a button. Remote doesn't 'properly' control TV volume.
