Yamaha RX-A1020

Excellent multi-channel performance, Very good two-channel delivery, Impressive video processing, 4K passthrough, Superb build quality, Attractive design, Excellent remote app

Network capabilities limited, Menus could be frustrating

The Yamaha RX-A1020 may not break the rule book when it comes to AV receiver design but that's no bad thing and the classic looks and clean lines are sure to please. There's a choice of the traditional matte black or a slightly more sexy two-tone...

Yamaha Aventage RX-A720, RX-A820, RX-A1020 Receiver Preview

The Aventage line from Yamaha has been popular since it was introduced and there is little to complain about with the new RX-A720, RX-A820, and RX-A1020 receivers.

Part of the renowned Aventage range, Yamaha's RX-A1020 packs in 4K functionality, eight HDMI ports and a host of special features.

As part of the Aventage range, there's a number of exclusive key features on the RX-A1020 as well, including an "Anti Resonance Technology Wedge", which is basically a fifth foot underneath the receiver that dampens vibrations; an aluminium front panel...

Yamaha Aventage RX-A1020 networked AV receiver

Yamaha’s third generation of its premium ‘Aventage’ range is here. Now consisting of five models, the RX-A1020 is right in the middle, but shares some of the higher end features.

Plenty of power, lots of features

This replaces an inexpensive HTIB I was using to drive my own bookshelf speakers and subwoofer so of course it's a huge upgrade. The speakers sounded fine but I discovered that the HTIB has a fixed crossover at maybe 100-120Hz which was much higher...

Lots of flexibility and the Scene settings let you set them all at once for particular scenarios. The on-screen menus are clear, useful, and attractive. Networking is a cinch—I plugged it in and it updated itself, AirPlay works, I have access to all...

No major cons. I’d like finer increments for the crossover settings—it skips from 60 to 80Hz but I want 70. Another brand’s entry-level receiver allows 10Hz increments from 40-200Hz. It runs warm compared to the HTIB it replaced. This unit like many...

Great Receiver

I have it set up as 5.1 for now (since I'm upgrading my old home theatre system). I'm considering going up to 7.1, but not sure how much difference it makes.

Many HDMI inputs. Also supports older connections (digital optical, digital coax, component, RCA). All the older connections are re-configurable to which A/V output the correspond with. Sound is very crisp, and not exaggerated. HDMI Standby is a great...

I haven't had any issues yet. I did a lot of comparing, and read the instruction manual before purchasing - so I knew exactly what I was getting
