The Yamaha A-S300 stereo amplifier is a budget star, but you can buy better

Decent build quality ; even tonal balance ; good timing

Sounds too polite ; lacks the drive of the top amps

Fine if money’s tight, but we’d save for its bigger, more robust-sounding brother

Yamaha A-S300 Integrated Amp and CD-S300 CD Player Preview

The price is where Yamaha sold us on the new S300 offerings. At $379.95 for the A-S300 Integrated Amplifier and $349.95 for the CD-S300 CD player, we think a lot of people are going to be interested.

Nicely laid out with no fuss. The variable loudness control is superb, far better than the push button booster type. This allows you tweak the sound at low volume levels without losing all the mid range. Plays well at all volume levels with plenty of...

Not necessarily a bad point, it is quite a bright sounding amp that needs to be tempered by using decent speakers and cables.
