Sherwood RD-6500 AV Receiver

The Sherwood RD-6500 could be considered the perfect stereo receiver - that also does surround sound but only having access to composite video makes it obsolete for video before you even get it home.

Sherwood RD-6500 Review and Prices

Finding a budget A/V receiver is always a tough challenge. You inevitably wind up compromising to keep within the budget market. For those looking for a truly low-priced A/V receiver, you must be willing to decide which company has made the compromises...

Plenty of power, low price

limited to composite video switching, no DTS decoder

Long Term Review

If you can pick this up for 50 bux or so you've gotten a pretty good deal.

Crazy to think i wrote the review: Anonymous 10/1/2007 10:57:14 AM ; It's 2014 now and I still haven't had a single problem. Very reliable ; Unfortunately my dog ate the remote back in 2008 or so. Still haven't replaced it

So far, so good...

I read many reviews complaing that this thing runs hot, but mine does not get very warm at all. Maybee they are stacking things on top of the unit, or maybee they are not using good enough speeker cable, or maybee they are using the wrong kind of...

Cheap, powerfull, 5.1 amp with three digital inputs...and it sounds good.

Lasted a month

Dont turn the volume up very high.

Sounded great for about a month

I had it on at about 70 out of 80, which i had done many times. It shut off, and now it wont go over 50 without turning off

Great sound, low price

The designers probably shouldn't have bothered putting in the video connections at all instead of the half-hearted implementation they did do.

Very good sound, low cost, straightforward setup

The buttons on the front of the unit have dark gray labels on a black background, and you simply will not be able to read them if the light is dim

Lasts a while

I bought this a looong time ago on sale at Circuit City. It has been a trully reliable and excellent Receiver. Its perfect for hooking up to your X-Fi soundcard with its 6 channel direct input. It's optical and coax digital inputs are great if you have...

Awesome price for the features

It can get pretty hot (solved by hooking up a cooling fan.

Nice unit for my needs

Not using it in a sophisticated manner. DVD & Digital Cable feed directly into my 42" Sharp HDTV. From TV out to the receiver T'm running a digital optical cable. Just using a Sony 3 speaker setup. Left-Center-Right. Am very happy with the results at a...

quality for cheap!

Used this for over a year on my HT system. I used mostly the 6 ch direct input (from computer), and the TOSLINK optical input (from DVD). Does not do the newer Dolby and DTS stuff that comes with HD-DVD and Blu-Ray. As long you want a good start...

Very affordable way to get decent 5.1 surr sound. This is a good starting point for a home theater ; Very easy to use, reliable

Missing the inputs and scalers of the higher end receivers, but for the price... what can you expect
