Onkyo TX-SR876

Thumping good fun in many ways, but sonically it's not as rounded as it ought to be to keep pace with some highly competitive rivals

Considerable spec ; powerful, effective video processing ; massive, muscular sound ; build ; value

Not as articulate, detailed or accurate as the new class best

TESTED: Onkyo TX-SR876 THX Ultra2 Plus-certified 7.1-channel A/V receiver

I've reviewed a number of Onkyo A/V receivers over time (see my review of the TX-SR705 from Playback 3) but never one of the really large models and I've always wondered how one of the “big guys” might perform. Partly to satisfy my own curiosity,...

Onkyo TX-SR876

Great quality hub for HiFi home cinema system. Huge amount of adjustability for audio and video.

Not userfriendly. Reaching the options is a pain through the clunky menu system. You can't adjust sound options on the fly (you have to stop and go through the menu), making it a VERY long winded proccess. You can't even change the dynamic range...

Onkyo TX-SR876

Really flexible menus covering most things you could wish to adjust for your own listening. 4 HDMI inputs are a great asset. Gives a fantastic HD output for my Infocus 80 projector. Sound is great. Although set up is fairly complicated, once that is...

Larger than I had anticipated and very heavy. Not great aesthetically from the front.

Onkyo TX-SR876

It has fanstatic sound. The volume control is excellent, giving a very smooth increase/decrease in sound. Have not used the HDMI connections as yet so I cannot comment on the video part. The microphone used to set up the speakers is great and ensures...

Have found none yet.

Onkyo video?

Value doesn't add up to the price paid. Look at other options in Home Video Receivers.

Good Sound, Nice remote

Video is not very good and looses its hand shake between video imput and output. Have to play with settings to get it back. By pass video and all is fine, just paid for a video receiver, be nice if it worked like it should

Onkyo TX-SR876 7.1 Channel Home Theater Receiver

The TX-SR876 has most of the features and performance of Onkyo's top of the line TX-NR906 minus the Internet features which I felt no need of since I own a Sony PS-3.  Besides, who wants to listen to low quality Internet radio over such high end gear? ...

High-end components and features without the high price

Unit runs hot. Settings occasionally change if the menu is not locked

Onkyo Has Another Winner

I've had the TX-SR876 receiver in use for almost three months, and I recommend it without reservation.

Superb AV features and performance. Audyssey auto-equalization. Excellent value

With all the features comes complexity. Can run hot
