Large-scale sound ; Will go loud ; Precise with sound placement ; Well specified
Bass could be punchier and tighter ; Lacks solidity ; Dynamically soft
An impressively specified receiver, but its sound performance leaves us wanting

Let me pose to you a potentially leading question: is there any piece of home-theater equipment less sexy than a receiver? Useful, oh yes -- and it pays to get a good one -- but most of them are very, very unsexy. The Onkyo TX-NR636 isn't quite an...
The Onkyo TX-NR636 has a laundry list of features including Dolby Atmos support and High-Resolution Audio streaming; HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2 means the receiver is potentially more future-proof than its competitors; very good sound quality; a phono input...
On-screen display is minimal and difficult to read; imposing external design.
The Onkyo TX-NR636 offers a compelling mix of features and performance with "future-proofing" that is unparalleled for the money.

Preview: The $500 Onkyo TX-NR535 can pass through 4K/60Hz and has HDMI version 2.0 ports, while the $700 TX-NR636 adds HDCP 2.2 compliance and other features for future-proofing your receiver purchase

We surveyed almost 1,000 users and spent 30 hours testing the top receivers with $35,000 equipment. The Onkyo TX-NR636 is the one we'd recommend for most people. It was subjectively and objectively the best-sounding of the bunch, and the only receiver...

I had a Denon but desided to upgrade, read the review's on this amp, sounded pretty good. But I feel like a fool now, there is a problem with the volume control on the remote, it goes to full volume or to no volume. It has wiped out my wireless...

I have owned this Onkyo for a month and it is perfect for highly automated homes. It has features I didn't expect:
Lots of HDMI switching, Sirius account login, DLNA, home automation
Android app doesn't work outside local LAN
