Onkyo TX-NR5008 review

Onkyo has updated its flagship AV receiver for the 3D generation. We look for refinement amid the metal mayhem

Extensive codec support ; network streaming for audio ; ample connections

Can sound coarse at very high volumes ; net functions need further integration

As a movie machine, it's a West End theatre capable of throwing a sonic envelope wide and loud; but it's also a sophisticated musician, at home with hi-res source material. While integration of new media sources could be a little more seamless, it's...

Onkyo TX-NR5008 review

This new flagship model from Onkyo is no slouch. In fact, we can't find anything to fault here, and that means a full five-star recommendation

Amazing build, sound, spec and value

Nothing

If you’ve the money and suitable partnering kit, you’ve got to hear this . It’s everything you’d expect – and much more

Onkyo TX-NR5008 review

When Europe's biggest AVR brand unveils a new flagship, it's time to take your head out of the popcorn bucket and pay attention. Not only has it outsold pretty much every other brand in the UK (and Germany) since 2009, but the Japanese marque has also...

Onkyo TX-NR5008 Networked AV Receiver First Look

Onkyo has begun refreshing its line up of receivers and at the top of the heap is the new TX-NR5008 networked model, updating the TX-NR5007. A few years back, with the advent of lossless audio formats to compliment HD video, Onkyo jumped ahead of the...

Although, not a huge upgrade in features from its predecessor, the TX-NR5007 which already had just about every feature known to A/V receivers, the TX-NR5008 does have several notable improvements. The HDMI compliance has been updated to 1.4a for 3D...

Onkyo TX-NR5008 A/V Receiver

So the red-felt-topped pool table with the Bud Light (get it?) lamp suspended above it in your man cave doesn't illicit “oohs” and “aahs” from visitors like it once did? Maybe it's time to re-create that 1980s Crazy Eddie's look by installing a...

Super Awesome Sound!

I fell in love with this receiver as soon as I set it up. The sound is crisp and clear, amazing detail in quality. Definitely well worth the investment, and an even sweeter deal for me, I happened to get it on sale.

The sound and options are amazing. This receiver has everything you could ever want. It's 3D capable, 9.2, multi-room/zone, streams internet radio without a PC, will connect directly to Windows Media Server, has multiple HDMI inputs, and has on-screen...

The only thing I don't like is the remote, it seems clumsy and awkward. With all the features packed into this receiver, a nicer remote control would have been appreciated. Not that the remote is horrible, it's pretty standard, just wish it would have...

This Reciver Rocks

This is a very heavy unit - 63 pounds. I did not want to list as a con, since that is part of why this is such a quality receiver and produces the best sound I have ever heard. If you are in the market for a Top of the Line reciver ... look no further...

Outstanding sound ; Tons of opions ; More inputs than you can use ; Two screen output ; Multizone ; Network ; Pandorda

None that I can find

Good power, fairly clean

I was also looking at a N.A.D, but the Onkyo is about 2.5k cheaper. Being *really* picky here, the highs are a little ragged and the mids could be smoother on my Martin Logan Aerius II, and Theater i, but its definitely much better than I expected. I...

This receiver has good power. Lots of nice features, and configurable. Remote is fine, but I only used it once before I got my harmony one programmed. Surround modes seem decent quality. Well laid out back panel. Clean sound, good stage, Pre outs are...

Puts out some heat, not a big deal for me, but might be for others. Deeper than my old receiver. Can't do 2 ohm in bridged mode...but then not many amps can
