Onkyo HT-S9100THX

This system offers a heck of a lot for the money, but the overall sound delivery is too much of a compromise

Excellent specification, from upscaled 1080p pictures to HD audio support and 7.1 speakers ; DVD player and receiver are very capable performers

Speakers let the side down with poor weight, punch and dynamics ; distinctly budget looks and build

Onkyo HT-S9100THX review: Onkyo HT-S9100THX

Onkyo HT-S9100THX

Outstanding audio quality; 7.1 surround sound speaker system with full-size speakers and subwoofer; component-style AV receiver included; four HDMI inputs, onboard decoding for Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio; can upconvert analog sources to 1080i.

Upconverting video quality is mediocre; speakers are large and boxy, so they need a lot of room and may detract from your decor.

The Onkyo HT-S91000THX breaks the HTIB mold, offering four HDMI inputs, full-size speakers, and the best sound we've heard to date from an all-in-one system.

Onkyo HT-S9100THX Home Theater System First Look

The HT-S9100THX is a 7.1-channel system with nearly all the trimmings, including THX I/S Plus certification - all packed into a nice, convenient box you can give to somebody... or even yourself.

This is an impressive 7.1 tower system that is priced higher than many home theater-in-a-box systems. In the case of the HT-S9100THX, you are clearly giving up some features, like an iPod dock, Zone 2, and the new Game DSP modes, for increased audio...

Onkyo HT-S9100THX Integrated System

Why are home theater products littered with logos? Because manufacturers don't want to reinvent the wheel. Rather than design its own loudness enhancement, auto-setup program, or video-processing chip, a company like Onkyo will license one of these...

What more are you looking for?

It is not impossible but if you wanted to make your life a lot simpler I would suggest buying banana plugs. Also, if you're like me and you have an oldschool PS3 (non-slim) you will need to tweak the output settings to get 7.1 and you will not get to...

Price, capabilities, 7.1, 290W - 12" subwoofer. Simply put you cannot put together this system, let alone a THX certified system, for the price of $799 ; I have watched this system for 7 months and in January the price was $799 and in July it was $799...

The provided cables will not suffice for the wattage being pushed, buy 12-14 gauge wiring like everyone suggests for $60; it will help your receiver mechanically last longer as it is not working so hard ; Also, the output does start out a bit quiet but...

Great value

This is a great bang for the buck. I'm going to recommend this system to my sister who still needs a home theater system.

This is a great home theater system. The overall sound is very good. I was surprised by the performance of the speakers. I am currently using only 5.1 but will hook up the two remaining speakers once I figure a way to hide them in my family room ; The...

I was less then impressed with the THX performance. I found the Dolby settings to be better. Perhaps is was the DVD or Blue Ray and not THX technology

Ok overall

Outputs are compatible with banana plugs from M***. Good wire a plus. The wire supplied with unit may be OK but it's not long enough for my room so I went with higher quality wire, again from M***.

Great sound. Lots of inputs, but not enough for me. Next model up with more inputs is pricy. This seems to be about the best bang for the buck if you can live with the remote and dock (see below) Great sound

The iPod dock does not work with new iPod so obviously this unit is old technology and will probably be replaced with a new one soon. Remote is very poor. Old technology, hard to program, can't do a lot of things like listen to music and watch tv at...

Worth it!

First - the box is HUGE and heavy (137lbs). The box was beat up pretty badly and the front right speaker had a fist-sized hole in it - thanks UPS. Fortunately, Newegg's customer service is good and they had me a new unit in 3 days. Again, the box was...

Good price. Complete, easy to setup package. Remote is straight-forward and easy to use. Awesome sound

Included speaker wire is thin and cruddy. Definitely get some 12 or 14 gauge wire. Receiver looks a little dated, but still nice
