Marantz SR7001 review

Marantz throws its considerable weight behind this receiver

Video upscaling ; Best remote control in its class ; Big sound

Poor onscreen display ; No networking connections

The SR7001 is a fantastic, well-specified, good-looking receiver

Marantz SR7001

Even after a price cut at the beginning of this year, Marantz's SR7001 is the most expensive receiver here. But the cost is some way justified by impregnable build quality, advanced features and excellent all-round performance, especially with music....

Quality construction; THX certification; advanced features and connectivity; commanding performance; musically minded

Expensively priced; dull set up; lacks detailed expression 'chickenwire effect

Marantz SR7001

Marantz' SR7001 AV receiver has all bases covered for those seeking a flexible home cinema powerhouse that isn't likely to be outclassed soon. The seven-channel amp is THX certified, so complies with specialist surround sound performance criteria

Excellent audio circuitry

Menus lacking somewhat in finesse

A great home cinema hub with a high degree of flexibility for simple multi-room installations

Marantz SR7001

Despite the refreshed numbering system, the Marantz is a slightly stodgy entrant into a very crowded marketplace. Its lack of features and high price could cause many to pass it over, and for music lovers this would be a shame.

Excellent stereo sound. Tonka-tough build. HDMI version 1.2 and upconversion.

Feature poor for the price. Lacking upscaling to HD. No iPod input. Surround sound is too safe.

Good

i have this unit in a cinema room inthe house, so it does help make things sound better then perhaps they are, but the unit it very powerful for the 6x4.5 metre room. thebass though perhaps could use more punch. this maybe my sub though, more testing...

excellent sound reproduction for the money. very all purpose, broad plug selection and easy interface looks pretty nice to

not leading edge technology (i.e. HDVD and Blueray)

Good

This av receiver is versatile enough for most home theater enthusiasts except for the very end users. It can handle all movie soundtracks easily and truthfully although it cannot handle the latest sound formats for HD-DVD/Blue ray via its HDMI (those...

Excellent mid-high range. Adequate bass. Solidly made and powerful enough to drive a 7.1 system for a moderate size room. The video up-conversion via HDMI is handy. The remote is a universal programmable with BACKLIGHT.

There is no iLink (IEEE1394 firwire)for direct digital link between the source of SACD/DVD-A and the receiver. No HDCD circuitry.
