Performance

Harman/Kardon AVR 130

Superb sound; fresh styling; rock-solid build quality; front-panel-mounted bass and treble controls; flexible setup functions; SACD/DVD-Audio 5.1 input.

Lacks onscreen displays; no component-video switching; no A/B-speaker switching.

Despite skimpy connectivity and a low power rating, Harman Kardon's new entry-level receiver is a sonic thoroughbred.

Harman Kardon AVR 330

Fresh style, plenty of features, and surprisingly powerful sound distinguish HK's midline receiver. Yes, it's rated at a mere 55 watts per channel, but to our ears, it sounded more like 100 watts.

Super soundSome automatic setup functionalitySeven 55-watt channelsExtensive 5.1-, 6.1-, and 7.1-surround processing modesSACD/DVD-Audio 7.1 inputComponent-video switchingTwo-zone operation

Somewhat awkward button layout on remote

For the final rounds, we compared the AVR 330 to Harman's entry-level receiver, the $799 AVR 130. While the 130 sounds very good, we found the 330's sonics to be slightly more refined.

Harman Kardon AVR-330, review

In the interest of full disclosure, I used to think Harman Kardon, for lack of a better word, sucked. This goes back to the days when they were still in their “Taiwanese phase”, sometime back in the early 90's. It had a cheap plasticy, light feel and...

VERY GOOD PERFORMANCE, GOOD CONNECTIVITY, STYLISH DISPLAY

Except the plastic front panel (which should rather be alu) the AVR330 doesn't look so bad. In fact, the nice dot matrix display and the blue-glowing volume control look pretty good. But it's not only the design that make this AV receiver one of the...

Good value for money ; Very good overall sound quality ; Multiroom set-up ; Bass management ; Display

No automatic speaker set-up ; No Dolby ProLogic IIx ; Plastic front panel

Good

A great AV amp easy to use Quick and easy to set up. A well laid out manual which is very easy to follow and of course it puts out FANTASTIC sound in what-ever mode you are listning to. The VMAx sound mode is great if you only have 2 speakers. Overall...

Easy to hook up the Minidisk/X-Box as the A/V and Digital connectors are on the front. Setup is easy as you see all the menus on the TV screen.
