Sanyo PLV-Z4000

This LCD projector isn't much of an upgrade from its predecessor and be prepared for some tweaking.

Sanyo PLV-Z4000 review

Sanyo's breadbin-style projector update squeezes more quality from its 3LCD chipset for less cash

Useful optical lens shift ; appealing film-like image resolution ; very quiet fan

Unrealistic colours ; yellow tint ; hardly improves on PLV-Z3000

The price feels right for this high-spec full HD unit and it has a good selection of key features, so I have no reservations in recommending it.

Sanyo PLV-Z4000 review

The Sanyo PLV-Z4000 is an impressive projector but it suffers from motion sickness

Easy to set-up and full HD spec ; impressive, natural colour palette ; decent detail.

Motion could be smoother ; some hints of noise

This is an all-round fine performer, let down a little in just one area

Sanyo PLV-Z4000 review

Sanyo's Z Series LCD projectors have given us some cracking 1080p models at aggressive price points – and now there's a new flagship. The Z4000 keeps to the formula and packs in high-end features like optical lens shift, while the price hits a new low.

Sanyo PLV-Z4000

With a fresh rate twice that of some standard home projectors, the Sanyo PLV-Z4000 is adept at displaying the fast action sequences so often a feature of Hollywood action movies. The PLV-Z4000 had a contrast ratio of 65000:1 and displays full 1080p...

Sanyo PLV-Z4000

Let's get one thing straight up front. Regardless of what's different, and what's not, this Z4000 absolutely puts a better image on the screen than the Z3000 we reviewed when it came out

Good color accuracy post calibration in "best" mode (extremely minor yellow push) ; Rich, dynamic image in "brightest" mode, with extremely good picture quality, for a brightest mode ; Excellent shadow detail performance ; Black level performance...

More difficult to calibrate than most, and lacks separate color gain and offset for grayscale calibration ; Slight yellow/green push, noticeable on skin tones, may be correctable with adjustments in the Color Management section ; While black levels are...

The PLV-Z4000 gets an award. Sanyo may have improved only little things, but the result was a better projector at a slightly lower price - more value. I considered at length our Hot Product Award, but, sports fan that I am, even with my points about...

SANYO PLV-Z4000 LCD Projector Reviewed

Few companies offer the level of performance, in terms of resolution, color, contrast, brightness and daily livability for the price than Sanyo and their PLV-Z4000 LCD Projector continues the tradition. Retailing for less than its counterparts the...

The PLV-Z4000 has a 1080p resolution and can accept 24p sources ; This 120Hz projector offers either a Smooth mode or a 5:5 pulldown mode for film sources ; Multiple lamp modes allow you to tailor the projector's light output to suit your viewing...

The setup menu only offers global RGB controls, as opposed to high and low settings, to adjust white balance ; The PLV-Z4000 lacks a 12-volt trigger ; The zoom, focus and lens-shift controls are manual, not motorized

The PLV-Z4000 has an MSRP of $2,495, but it is actually available for under $2,000 through legitimate outlets. That makes it an excellent value in the world of 1080p projection, yet it does not skimp on features to achieve that price point. This SANYO...
