Panasonic's latest LCD standard-bearer

Exceptional colours ; Decent price ; Good black levels ; No noise ; Scart socket

The PT-AE700E gets a boost

Daytime TV and home theatre use ; flexible set-up

Panasonic PT-AE900

Few brands over the years have kept the LCD projection flag flying more successfully than Panasonic. So the company's latest flagship model, the PT-AE900, has a lot to live up to. It gets off to a fairly inauspicious start though, looking rather dour...

Excellent picture quality, good features count

Picture could be a touch sharper, the design is bland

Performance

Panasonic PT-AE900U

Relatively inexpensive; solid video processing with 2:3 pull-down; excellent features for setup, including long zoom and horizontal and vertical lens shift; very bright and capable of driving large screen sizes; numerous picture-tweaking options.

Black-level performance and contrast ratio not up to DLP standards; somewhat soft HD images.

While not quite as impressive as more expensive DLPs, the budget Panasonic PT-AE900U LCD is the champion of its price bracket so far.

Panasonic PT-AE900U LCD Projector Review

We got our first glimpse of the Panasonic PT-AE900U at this year's CEDIA Expo in Indianapolis. While the projector wasn't displaying picture at the booth, we were excited to see that it sported the

ZERO screen door effect from real viewing distances ; Excellent contrast ; Deep, rich colors ; Consumer adjustment of RGB gain, cut and gamma ; Backlit LEARNING remote ; Finely adjustable color temperature ; 3000 hour lamp life ; Can move OSD position

Requires calibration out of the box ; IR sensor on front only ; Overscan enabled by default ; More optical zoom would be welcome ; Friends may show up unexpectedly to watch movies ; No 12V trigger

Panasonic PT-AE900

The PT-AE900 is an upgrade to Panasonic's popular PT-AE700 high definition home theatre projector. By further improving the picture quality and remote control, Panasonic seems to have made a great projector even better.

Outstanding pictures that are clear and vibrant. High contrast and brightness. Learning remote included. Easy to set up. Good set of connectors.

Remote will take some time to master. Average looking chassis.

If outstanding home cinema is what you’re after, then Panasonic’s PT-AE900 is a superb choice for the price.

Panasonic PT-AE900U LCD Front Projector

HDTVs are becoming increasingly affordable as price erosion takes a firm foothold with this technology. Still, as with so many things in life, you most often get what you pay for in hometheater equipment. Front projectors have never been more...

The PT-AE900U is one of the leastexpensive high-resolution projectors on the market, but as I said earlier, you get what you pay for. Given that fact, you have to expect some performance shortcomings, like the slightly soft picture due to the quality...

Yep, there's a lot to like about the PT-AE900U, but versatility is undoubtedly its greatest asset. We've looked at several HD LCD projectors over the past year, some of which carry lower MSRPs than this one. However, all of those projectors came with...

Panasonic PT-AE900

It is often said that the only constant thing in life is change. Whoever coined this phrase must surely have been thinking about home theatre projectors, as this couldn't be more applicable than with the latest front projection offering from Panasonic

The AE900 is utilizing the latest D5 1280 x 720 HD LCD panels with higher natural contrast and higher fill rate (less space naturally between pixels). The new panel technology (along with a dynamic iris) helps the Panasonic claim a 5500:1 contrast ratio
