TESTED: Optoma HD806 Projector

The Optoma HD806 is a no-nonsense 1080p DLP projector that produces sharp and vivid images, which stop well short of the garish color exaggerations some projectors impose (though you’ll want to back color down a bit to achieve more accurate skin...

Optoma HD806

This Optoma projector has a brighter lamp, and a different color wheel than the other models, with both changes focused on getting out the most lumens, rather than the absolute best picture (in areas like black levels)

Good color accuracy post calibration in best mode ; Brightest "best mode" performance of any home theater projector near its price ; Brighter than average performance in "brightest mode" (although no brighter than "best" mode) ; Dynamic image, with...

Shadow detail performance is decent, but not up a number of other home theater projectors, which reveal more ; Audible noise levels are on the high side (again, though, typical of most DLP projectors) ; While out of the box performance isn't bad, in...

As a family room projector, I expect many owners will pair the HD806 with pull-down or motorized screens, as opposed to the fixed wall screens that usually are only found in more dedicated environments

Optoma HD806 Review

If you are looking for a bright DLP 1080p projector for casual home video entertainment with a light or two on, the HD806 may be just the right choice.

The Optoma HD806 is an attractive solution for projection in ambient light. We could see it working extremely well in a sports bar environment. In that setting, you want the HD806's bright, vibrant, high definition 1080p picture, and its shortcomings...

Bright Sharp and Natural image

I have not seen a brighter projector for the price, even some more expensive, in the 4000-5000 price range.  1080p movies are beautiful, sharp, even in economy mode.  Bright mode is just spectacular.

Makes you foget you are watching a projector

Reminds you with rainbows once in a while
