Optoma HD7100 Projector Review

We were very eager to get our hands on the new Optoma HD7100 home theater projector, considering the very high performance we achieved with the recently reviewed Optoma HD72 . The New HD7100 boasts

Horizontal & vertical lens shift ; Excellent black level and color ; Excellent build quality ; Terrific calibration menu ; Modern styling ; 3-year warranty

No HDMI input (DVI only) ; Remote has sporadic operation ; No 12 volt trigger ; Louder fan nose than previous model ; Trouble syncing with longer DVI and HDMI cables ; Quirky internal scaler/processor

Optoma HD7100 DLP Projector

Optoma is making great strides in the affordable DLP projector arena. The $3495 HD7100 is a 1280x720 DarkChip3 device, with quality optics, four-way lens shift, horizontal and vertical keystone correction, manual zoom and focus, easy-to-navigate menus,...

Optoma HD7100 Projector and HD7300 Projector/Scaler Bundle: Short Take

Although its specifications promise a brighter picture with higher internal contrast, my review sample of the new Optoma HD7100 did not deliver a noticeably better picture than its predecessor, the H79. But the good news is it's less than half the price.

Review: Optoma HD7100

In March of last year Optoma released the impressive H79 at a retail price of $10,000. That was a 1280x720 DLP DarkChip3 projector. At its release it was selling on the street for about $6500, and it was truly an exceptional, leading edge product which...

Optoma HD7100

In the first few hours of working with the HD7100 front projector, I primarily watched DVD content without first calibrating or measuring the projector's performance. I have always considered "out of the box" performance to be extremely important, as I...

Overall excellent color ; Especially good color "out of the box" without any fuss ; Excellent black levels and very good shadow detail ; Rich colors, notably in dark areas and very impressive ; Menus - this new menu look for Optoma is one I really...

Remote has limited range ; Could use more range on lens shift (but glad to have lens shift at all!) ; Zoom range and a slightly longer throw zoom would allow more people to shelf mount ; Noisy, in Low power mode the fan is a little noisier than average...

Congrats to Optoma, for another in a consistant string of excellent home theater projectors. I can't wait to get my hands on the far more expensive 1080p resolution HD81 scheduled for this summer! If it even performs only as well as the HD7100 plus...

Optoma HD7100 Projector Review - Overview

To summarize - if I had a $3500 or less budget for a home theater projector, and if the Optoma HD7100 is compatible with my theater room (placement wise), it would absolutely be my first choice of all the projectors I have reviewed!

Overall excellent color

Remote has limited range
