Optoma GT720

The idea of a gaming projector—as opposed to a data projector or home theater projector—is new. So what distinguishes a gaming projector? The answer is that there's no one feature you can point to. Rather, there are any number of touches, both small...

Designed for game playing. Short throw. High-volume, good quality audio. 3D ready. Optimized for PS3 and Xbox

No zoom or lens shift to help make setup easy. Some issues with image quality for full motion video

One of the few projectors designed specifically for game playing, the Optoma GT720 is 3D ready and offers a short throw, good brightness, and high-volume, good quality audio.

Optoma GT720 GameTime

We're a bit late, I must confess. The GT720 has been around a good year at the time of this writing. The GT720 gaming projector is a $699 projector, very nicely priced for the gaming market it would seem. Shortly, Optoma will release the GT750, and...

For the price of a 42" 3D LCDTV, you can have 90" 100", 120", or even larger, for game playing. Talk about immersive ; Both of our gaming / projector bloggers find that the GT720 delivers as a gaming platform. No lag, good shadow detail. While...

Black level performance is seriously weak, (however that turns out to also be a plus - in shadow detail, expecially for gamers) ; Color could be better in 2D, but acceptable for typical buyers (try our color settings!) ; 3D color is off more, but that...

Lots of shadow detail, a fantastic amount, in fact. This is most helpful for games. Oh, however, I really would have liked to see better blacks. I’ve reduced the Brightness setting enough to crush some near blacks, to get some blacks vaguely resembling...

Optoma GT720 DLP Projector Review

A good projector, but the resolution is a bit low for serious gaming

Great color performance, overall; Very bright

Terrible resolution scaling; Very short throw distance

The Optoma GT720 is not a perfect projector, but it’s certainly not a bad projector. In one mode, the brightness is outstanding, but the color performance is awful. In another mode, the color performance is great, but it’s not bright enough to see in...

Optoma GT720

On the whole, it's a good projector, but if you're serious about gaming we'd recommend looking for something with a 720p or 1080p native resolution.
