Epson EMP-TW600 review

Epson moves into LCD home cinema territory

HD Ready ; lens shift ; bright picture ; good colour

Some fan noise ; contrast could be better ; lens shortcomings

Clean colour, smooth picture, but lacks sharpness and unsuitable behind viewing plane

Priced to compete, the Epson EMP-TW600 is a welcome addition to the high definition, home theatre projector market.

HDMI input, high brightness, low noise operation, extensive colour and image configuration options.

Fast action images showed some lag effect, bright colours seemed washed out.

Epson EMP-TW600

The Epson EMP-TW600 offers the best of both worlds: Inky black-level performance and installation-friendly lens shift.

DLP-class shadow details ; Rich saturated colours ; Alluring satin shell ; Wide zoom and lens shift ; Comprehensive settings ; Affordable

Noisy on high-power lamp modes ; Bulky compared with the DLPs

The AU$2999 Epson EMP-TW600 could have easily attained an Editors' Choice status if not for its LCD compatriot from Panasonic. The PT-AE900 beats the Epson by featuring a wide two-times optical zoom plus a handy universal remote control.

Epson EMP-TW600

Upon un-boxing the projector, the first thing you notice is just how big it is, compared to many projectors. The actual measurements don't do it justice so I'll use mine. It's about two hand spans across and almost one and a half front to back. My...

Initially, I was pretty ho-hum about the Epson's performance after having the Panasonic 900 in house recently. If the Epson was a school kid, its mid term report would read "an above average student but struggling in a couple of key areas". I...

"Great All-Round!"

All round (including price) I couldn't pass this unit up. The only other contender was a Panasonic P?? something. The epson was a better price with cheaper globe replacement. As mentioned, other reviewers say it suffers in Games but I find it perfect....

I use it primarily with my Media Centre PC. I have a 90" 16:9 screen which is almost a little big for the area that it's in. MCE looks brilliant. Xbox & PC Games are fantastic. This is my first projector, there may be better projectors for games...

Works well in lit areas on Dynamic mode but after 500+ hours it has dimmed down a bit and is best used with your blinds shut. Light room, dark movie is a hard to view. I wish all Xbox games were 16:9

"Superb quality value for money"

I bought it 2 months ago. Till now I have used it with PC RGB output only, but the results are awesome. The picture quality was perfect for WMVHD.

Superb picture quality, Auto IRIS is near to perfection

bit heavy, no sound option

"Excellent"

Out of the box this projector shone. It's detail and colours were nothing short of exceptional. Epson also threw in a screen and 10 free DVD's. We set it up in no time and are constranly impressed with its performance. We did look at the Panasonic...
