ViewSonic Pro8200 review

This pocket rocket offers a lot of picture for the price

Excellent colour fidelity ; good connectivity ; bright enough for a partially lit room ; modest footprint

Limited motion resolution ; noisy runner

The ViewSonic Pro8200 is a nice enough budget 1080p projector, given the ticket price. However, despite its many plus points the package is undermined by poor motion resolution, and that panning 'skip' is definitely irritating.

ViewSonic Pro8200

A good bargain for the price, but the poor contrast leaves us disappointed

Bright picture ; Pleasing white levels ; Colours have good detail ; Sturdy build ; Backlit remote

Poor black levels ; Motion stability issues ; Picture could be cleaner and more detailed

The ViewSonic Pro8200 has its ups and downs. There’s enough detail to keep you watching, and has a lively way with brightness that’s pleasing to watch. However, the poor contrast is a big issue.

Viewsonic Pro8200 review

The latest entrant in the increasingly crowded budget 1080p projector market, the ViewSonic Pro8200 has an impressive resumé. At a tidy 3.63kg, this diminutive 2,000 lumens light cannon bristles with connection options, sports TI's BrilliantColor...

Poor picture sinks cheap ViewSonic Pro8200

The ViewSonic Pro8200 DLP projector is cheap, and the design is fairly flashy looking; keystone adjustment and picture processing are excellent for the price; plenty of inputs.

It has bizarrely poor black levels; shadow detail is severely crushed; overly saturated colors; no lens shift or 3D capability.

The ViewSonic Pro8200 may seem "cheap and cheerful," but its sub-par image quality against rivals makes it a worse value.

ViewSonic Pro8200

Designed as a home theater projector, the ViewSonic Pro8200 may be of more interest for business use.

Two HDMI ports. Native 1080p resolution. Zoom lens (1.5x). Suitably bright. Works well as a data projector.

No 3D support. Particularly noticeable rainbow effect, with light areas breaking up into primary colors.

ViewSonic Pro8200

The ViewSonic Pro8200 could make for an affordable home theater experience.

The ViewSonic Pro8200 ($899 MSRP, slightly cheaper online) is an HD 1080p projector with HDMI connectivity that we peg as best used for home theater. It is not a projector to be used reliably for presentations or in a classroom. The peak brightness is...

Viewsonic Pro8200 1080p Home Theater Projector

The Pro8200 is an excellent low budget 1080p projector, just right for those taking the first step into home theater...

The Viewsonic Pro8200 can produce a very attractive 1080p video image. The factory default color settings need a bit of adjustment, but once tweaked the Pro8200 goes from good to great. For the living room or the theater, the Pro8200 is a bright,...

Viewsonic Pro8200

Ultimately, the Viewsonic Pro8200 can be considered a dual purpose projector - a cross-over. It can be used for business or education presentations, or fit right at home as a very nice home entertainment projector

Bright entry level home projector with sufficient lumens for most portable business use as well ; Very versatile projector, overall ; Loaded with inputs, including 2 hdmi, 2 computer, 1 component, 1 USB ; Big audio - a pair of 10 watt speakers, three...

A bit noisy in full power mode, with a claimed, and unimpressive 31 db ; HDMI seems not quite as built-proof as other projectors ; Small remote's buttons cannot be read in dark despite blue led backlight ; Lack of lens shift (although typical of lower...

Combine that with the rich feature set - yes, even picture in picture, and the Viewsonic stands out among the sub $1000 home projectors, and it has to be the most versatile of the cross-over projectors I've seen so far for the price. It's when I added...

What I like about the Pro8200 is that it manages to be a good cross-over projector, yet still measures up well as a real home projector for it’s price. If you’ve got less than a grand to spend, but need a good business projector that is also reasonably...
