REVIEW: Dell M115HD

You wait ages for a palm-sized LED projector to come along then two turn up [almost] together, with the Dell M115HD bearing a more than passing resemblance to the Optoma ML550 we reviewed recently. Along with the similarities, however, there are a...

Not quite as bright or well specified as the impressive Optoma ML550/750 duo, nevertheless the Dell M115HD is a capable and very portable projector that manages to pack a lot of useful functionality into a tiny format. It’s also easy to use with great...

Dell M115HD

We find out why Dell's compact digital projector is the perfect solution for tech-savvy photographers on the move.

We’re really impressed by the Dell M115HD. It might not be the most powerful projector on the market, but its 450 lumens LED bulb kicks out easily enough light for home use, even in large rooms. Colour and contrast fidelity are good, though there is a...

Dell M115HD

The Dell M115HD has a good range of connection choices for a palmtop projector.

Tiny, lightweight, and highly portable. USB direct. Can run presentations from USB thumb drives and micro SD cards. Very long lamp life. Optional WiFi connectivity.

Shows scaling artifacts at its claimed native resolution. Sub-par text quality. Notably feeble audio. Tinting in video.

Though its image quality for both data and video falls a bit short of the Editors' Choice 3M Mobile Projector MP410, the Dell M115HD offers a higher rated brightness, an attractive feature for road warriors who need to present on the fly in rooms they...

Under two pounds with the power brick, a solid little business projector that can be used for home entertainment.

Nice little projector

So much better having small projectors .. people who transport them love it because they come in a tiny case.

Starting to phase out our old large projectors. Produces excellent images even with some ambient lighting.

Being small and light make it a bit tough to keep steady sometimes but nothing major.

A Bit Loud

If I could go back and not buy this, I would. The fan is just too loud for me. I might try and put an aftermarket fan in it just to shut it up.

It throws a great picture. I usually have this set up in my living room and have the screen at around 3 meters. Even on a bumpy painted wall the picture looks nice. Just for fun I put it on the side of a building out in the country and watched a movie...

It says 32-36 dB but after testing I found it never drops below 45 and is usually around 50dB (even on eco mode). At 50dB it is extremely annoying. The lens gets hot and warps the picture slightly but you can manually re-adjust the focus to fix it.

For small and quick presentation this is ideal. Many of my instructors and presenters are older and hate to carry a lot of extra gear. (some are not technically savvy) So this is a blessing for them!

Having to do presentations in awkward locations, this little beauty does the trick! Very clear and bright. Not really for big seminars but for a group of 10-20 this works fine. Can use different media, I prefer the Micro SC card as there is less to...

Unfortunately it doesn't come WITH the remote, you need to buy it from dell,( neither of the remotes that work with the projector have a built in laser pointer) nor does the very handy tripod that works much better than just the "screw type foot" built...

Powerful

It's not something you'd take home to watch blu ray movies on or anything, but for a small conference room or a serial roadie presenter it's a must-have.

Knowing it was a micro-projector I was still taken aback by how small it is. Easily fits in the palm of my hand. Even more surprising is just how bright and vivid it is. I was projecting onto a wall 10 feet away and it was clear as a bell. It also has...

The colors are a little muted, even if it is really bright. From farther distances it is difficult to keep the entire image in focus. The edges are either slightly out of focus or the center is, but it's only noticable beyond 8-10 feet with a 70"...
