BenQ W100 review

BenQ strikes the value jackpot again

Amazing value for money, good colour, brightness and contrast

Some motion artefacts, mechanical whine from colour wheel, light spill

Simple control menu system, bright, clean pictures - and cheap

BenQ W100

Those looking at taking their first step into projector-ownership but don't want to spend too much money will do well to consider the BenQ W100.

Cheap for a DLP ; Decent image quality ; Easy to set up

Limited connectivity options ; Design is uninspiring ; Low resolution of 854x480 ; Features-light

While the BenQW100 doesn't sport some of the features and functionality of other home theatre projectors, it does come in at a very attractive price. Those looking at taking their first step into projector-ownership but don't want to spend too much...

BenQ W100 Projector Review - Overview

Low cost, excellent picture out of the box with no fiddling, easy to hook up, low cost of operation due to long lamp life, a typical warranty, and very quiet! Put all that together and it translates to great price performance.

Excellent color out of the box

Limited color controls (which fortunately aren't needed)

BenQ W100

It's always fun working with a prototype of a "soon to be released" projector, because you never know what to expect. Some perform essentially identically to the production units that follow shortly after, while others may exhibit major flaws, or...

Excellent color out of the box ; Very quiet operation ; Extremely long life lamp for low cost of ownership ; Low power mode ; Very functional remote, with plenty of range and bright backlight ; Good selection of inputs (one digital - DVI, plus two...

Limited color controls (which fortunately aren't needed) ; Very limited range on zoom lens - although few entry level projectors are much better, the W100 is at the low end with only 1.15:1 ; Black levels (for a low cost DLP projector - still much...

BenQ W100 Home theatre projector

If you don't want to put your home up for a 2nd mortgage to get awesome home theatre, look no further than BenQ's brand new W100.

We we're quite happy with the picture with tests done on both DVD movies and Xbox 360 games and it performed flawlessly. The low price does mean a lower resolution but we were quite happy with an image size of up to 2 metres wide. The colour and...
