Epson kills off its old business model with a printer that eliminates ink cartridges. But do the DIY refills justify the higher price tag?
The Epson EcoTank ET-2550 is a multifunction printer, copier and scanner that can hold enough ink to last two years without a single refill. The subsequent refill bottles are also much cheaper than traditional cartridges, offering potential savings...
The printer costs four to eight times more than cartridge-based models. It has a very minimal display and feature set, lacking an Ethernet port, fax functionality, auto-document feeder and duplexing.
With its ultra-low-cost refillable ink bottles, this clever little Epson EcoTank printer does away with pricey ink cartridges once and for all -- but it will cost you a lot more up front.

The Epson EcoTank ET-2550 is an all-in-one printer, copier and scanner. It's part of Epson's EcoTank range of printers which have big ink tanks and give you lots of ink in the box when you buy. It has wi-fi connectivity and text prints come through at...

This is a three in one unit (no fax) it prints, scans and copies. With recent units this can not only be via a PC but also other devices via the WWW. It is unlikely to pass the lounge police so with Wi-Fi it can sit behind the sofa or even in a cupboard.
The Epson ET-2550 is available from with free delivery.

It was just over twelve months ago that Epson turned its approach to the printer inkjet market on its head. This change was brought about by the company's EcoTank technology.
While this EcoTank technology has resulted in a big drop in the running costs of this printer, the upfront cost has seen an upward jump. The ET-2550, which comes with a three year warranty, is currently priced at £259.69 on Amazon.co.uk. This...

The Epson EcoTank ET-2550 might look like a standard small form inkjet printer, but there's one big difference: instead of the traditional inkjet cartridges that most printers use to put images and text on paper, the EcoTank series comes with a set of...

The bottles have enough ink in them to print about 4,000 pages of black ink and 6,500 pages of color, which is roughly the equivalent of a two-year supply at moderate print volumes.

The Epson Expression ET-2550 EcoTank All-in-One outputs great text and graphics, and can save you a ton on ink once you've paid off your initial investment on the inkjet multifunction printer.

The ET-2550 offers a dramatic reduction in ink costs and produces excellent photo prints and scans. Serious photographers will love the sharpness and depth of the ET-2550's glossy photo prints — and given their heavy use of ink, stand to benefit the...
Very low cost per page ; Excellent photo-print and scan quality ; Fast at black-and-white copying ; Fast to start up
High up-front cost ; Slow scanning and photo printing
While this printer is pricey up front, the ET-2550's refillable ink tanks make it very economical over time and a good fit for people with heavy printing demands.

I will spend a lot less on ink.
