Handheld mixing for DJs! What will they think of next?

At the centre of things is the device's circular touchpad, which sits directly beneath a circular screen at the top. This is used to scroll quickly through track lists, adjust gain and volume levels, bass and treble. It's also used to adjust the speed...

Tonium Pacemaker 60GB review - music and mixing reviews and video

Tonium's awesome mini DJ rig has just received some new firmware and a cheaper price tag. Is it ready to hit the big time?

Now much easier to use. Plenty of hard disk space. Unique and quite brilliant

PC and Mac software needs more work. Not for the sausage-fingered

Tonium Pacemaker review

Promising all the features of a DJ booth in one pocketable gadget, the Pacemaker is truly unique. But is it a mixing essential?

It won’t mix the tunes for you, but for those who can beat-mix or are prepared to learn, the Pacemaker is a dream come true

Preview: Tired of hauling around a hernia-inducing DJ rig? The Pacemaker is a full mixing set-up ' but in a device smaller than the PSP

Touch-sensitive cross-fader. Incredibly capable for the size. Generous 120GB capacity.

Expensive.

Pacemaker review

This unique device incorporates a 120GB hard drive with virtual mixing decks to enable home clubbers to mix their digital music. Wildly innovative, we couldn't resist testing out Tonium's Pacemaker.

Unique, highly portable, Mac and PC friendly, charges from USB or mains, burgeoning online community

Expensive, flaky editor, not particularly creative, not expandable like computer-based DJ setups, no iTunes integration

The Pacemaker is expensive – similar funds would buy a Numark iDJ2, which works in a more conventional way and uses the iPod, so has more appeal for the beginner. It seems like a great idea, but as a new idea and new technology, the story is...

Tonium Pacemaker (60GB) review: Tonium Pacemaker (60GB)

Tonium Pacemaker (60GB)

The second-generation of the DJ-friendly Pacemaker MP3 player offers a more affordable price than the original model, and new features, such as automatic tempo matching, expanded effects, audio time-stretching, and a master EQ.

The slashed price of the Pacemaker comes at the cost of a smaller hard drive, and the complaints we had about the previous model's complicated interface design haven't changed.

The Pacemaker is a fun tool for DJs on the go. It's not our first choice for playing a DJ gig, but it gets the job done, and the price is a fair reflection of its features and portable design.

Tonium Pacemaker 60GB

When we reviewed the original Pacemaker in June of 2008, it topped our list of digital DJ toys, but the accompanying $800 price tag was hard to swallow. Revamped for 2009, the second-generation of the Pacemaker MP3 player includes all the features of...
